February Fun

Charlie has been getting a lot of petting lately and getting to come inside more.  He loves it and sometimes just waits by the door so he can dash inside.
We were invited by our friends Mandy and David to attend their church's Valentine Banquet.  We ate a delicious meal of homemade enchiladas, side dishes, and desserts.  Then we split into table groups and had a "Nailed It" contest.  "Nailed It" is a show where people try to recreate something that they see in a picture.  In each of the following challenges we could use our phones to Google ideas.
Our first challenge was to create a 4 course meal using cupcakes, icing, and candy pieces.  Below is our creation, a piece of fried chicken, peas and carrots, mashed potatoes with butter, and cherry pie with a lattice crust.  We definitely "Nailed It" on this one!
Moving on to the second challenge we had to pair up and create something of our choosing, starting with a heart shaped sugar cookie, icing, and candy pieces.  I came up with the fish idea and Eric made it happen.
Our fish was picked as one of the top 4 and we moved on to the final challenge.
Lastly 4 groups of 2 were given a package of graham crackers, a container of icing, and candy pieces again.  We had 5 - 10 minutes to create a "Love Shack".  I thought of a van.  Yes folks, a van...down by the river...  There were a lot of jokes and laughs about our "Love Shack Van", but we tied for first place!
It was a very fun night with our friends and we were so glad we attended this event with them.
Phoebe had to create a valentine box again this year for the annual valentine card exchange at school.  She and I looked through some pictures on Pinterest and she decided on an Owl.  This was actually pretty easy, by far the easiest valentine box I have made with my kids to date.  We used an old cereal box and cut the top off to leave a large opening to get the cards and candy in and out easily.
We used colored cardstock, sticker letters, ribbon, large googly eyes, foam sticker hearts, and some scrapbook papers.  To glue we used hot melt glue/glue gun, and Elmer's bottle glue.
Grandma Sharon came to visit us in mid-February for 5 days.  She arrived on a Wednesday and left to go back to Texas the following Monday afternoon.  She got to go to Sarah's middle school conferences with us and hear all of Sarah's teachers talk about how great of a student Sarah is.  She also got a personal tour of the school from Sarah.
On Friday evening we went to a high school basketball game.  We sat with some of our friends.
The girls game was a blow away.  Below, Sarah and Abigail with Kennedy Brown, a local stand-out player who already signed a letter to play for a college team on the west coast.  She is 6'5' and towers above Abigail and Sarah!  The boys game was much more fun to watch and close to the end.
Saturday, Grandma got to watch all 3 kids' Upward basketball games.
On Sunday we went to a WSU Lady Shockers basketball game with Grandma and our friends.  After the game some of the Shockers players and coaches ran an hour long basketball clinic for any kid who wanted to stay and participate.  Below, Abigail, Phoebe, Sarah, and Silas headed down to the court to work on their basketball skills.
Before Grandma Sharon left to head back to Texas we were able to squeeze in some pedicures.  The girls always look forward to this when we get to see Grandma in Texas and in Kansas.
Our toes all looked really pretty!  Thanks Grandma Sharon.

Daddy Daughter Dance 2019

On Saturday, March 2nd, I had the privilege of taking my two daughters to the Daddy Daughter dance.  We have gone to this now for several years in a row.
The girls picked out my gray suit, blue shirt, and orange striped tie to for me to wear.
I got each one of them a corsage.  Stacee did their hair and makeup.
I love when our girls wear their hair down.  I wish they would do it more often.
After we had all our home pictures taken, we were ready to head off.  We wanted to be there 15 minutes early, but instead arrived right on time.
The girls looked beautiful in their new dresses.  Although neither were overly excited to go, this may have been the most fun we have had together at one of these events.  We were on the dance floor all evening with Coach David and Abigail and Coach Kris and his daughters.  Also spent some time with Coach DJ.  Dad Coaches, gotta love em.

Silas Game #8 vs. Clippers - March 2nd
Since Phoebe's game was not until 10:30, I was able to watch all of Silas's game.
He started out his grand entry by high fiving the fans.
He had a good, aggressive player on him so it was fun to watch.
They kept score of the game and Silas' team won by 10.  Silas ended up with 6 baskets.
In the post game talk, Coach David and Mandy gave a Bible as a gift to each of the players on their team.  What a great idea I wish I had done this over the years.  Silas loves his and I saw one of the girls on the team reading hers at the game.  Great season.

Phoebe Game #11 vs. Sun - March 2nd
Last game of the year.  We still had two girls who hadn't scored all year, so my goal was to give them plenty of opportunities.
Phoebe was fighting a fever the night before and wasn't feeling the best this morning but she played a good game.
Before the game, the coach on the other team made a comment that they would have a chance if Phoebe wasn't playing.
We ended up winning 31-16.  Phoebe had 8 points, 4 of them from the free throw line.  The two girls who hadn't scored had plenty of opportunities, but no baskets.
Above, Phoebe and two of her best friends, Shawna and Haylee.
We ended up 7-4 this season.  One loss was to this team and the other three to the other team.  Good season Phoebe.  Look forward to you girls playing in the older group next year.

Sarah Game #8 vs. Celtics - March 2nd
Last game of Sarah's Upward career and since we only had (4) girls this Saturday, she got to play the entire game.
Our girls were ready to dominate their last game, and that they did.
I gave each girl an opportunity to be the point guard and every girl scored.
The goal was 46 points because Amiyah's sister's team had scored 46 earlier that day.  We fell just short, 42-10.  Sarah had an effortless 30 points.  The director of the league who has officiated 8th grade games, said Sarah could easily play against any of the girls he officiated at that age.  She is a good player and Stacee and I are excited to watch her in middle school, (so are Popee and Nanee - our kid's super fans.)
