Things in May

Bret visited us one morning after a night of storm chasing in Kansas.  He had some really cool storm/weather gear that he showed Silas how to use.
Eric took Silas on the first "daddy-date" of the year in May.  They went to the drive-in movie theater to see the movie "Bad Guys" that Silas had really been wanting to see.
Silas participated in his field day at school.  He received a 2nd place ribbon in the 100m dash, a 1st place in the Limbo, 1st place in the 50m dash, and a 1st place in the 75m run.  Great job!
Mom and Dad came to visit us a couple days before Mother's Day so that they could watch our kids in some of their activities.  We celebrated a little early with dinner, gifts, and a special cake Dad made and decorated for the moms.
Sharon came to visit us for the weekend too.  Happy Mother's Day to me, Sharon, Mom, and Lindsee!
Phoebe, Sharon, Sarah, and I all got Pedicures on Saturday morning.
Then Saturday night we attended a Windsurge baseball game.
We celebrated Eric's 44th birthday on Sunday.
We enjoyed fruit pizza for his birthday dessert.
Phoebe had her last choir concert for the year.  It was a Pop Concert and her group sand AND danced to several Taylor Swift songs.  They did great!  It sounded great and was very entertaining.

Below, Phoebe and her friend Shawna, after the concert.
Softball and baseball games started for Silas and Phoebe in May.  Jax has been coming to hang out with Sarah and to help cheer on Phoebe and Silas.  They all love getting to play on teams with their friends.
Popee, Nanee, EP, Lindsee, and Will have made it to a few games to support Phoebe and Silas too.
Phoebe was nominated and selected by a group of teachers at her school for the National Junior Honor Society.  This is based on Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.  She was inducted into NJHS one afternoon after school in a short ceremony.  Popee and Nanee joined us to show support for Phoebe and to congratulate her.  WAY TO GO, PHOEBE!  You are amazing!
She received some beautiful flowers from Popee and Nanee for her accomplishment.

We got to watch Will play in another one of his soccer games in Kansas.  He is a good little player, competitive and fast.  It was fun to watch and cheer him on.
After the soccer game we went back to Popee and Nanee's house to help work on some projects.  We also managed to have a small water balloon fight in the backyard.
Popee and Phoebe found a little snake while doing some yardwork.  Phoebe and Silas wanted to hold it.

I attended zoo day with Silas's school.  I got to walk around with some boys in his class and a few other friends.
Silas and his friend Isaac were selected to participate in the school's Talent Show.  It was held on the last day of school.  Isaac does a little YouTube station and calls himself the "Little Try Guy".  He tries all sorts of food and drinks and talks about the things he tries.  He included Silas as his guest this time.  They tried chocolate covered larvae and crickets and spaghetti pop!
Below, last day of school pictures with his good friend, Isaac, and his third grade teacher.  It was a GREAT YEAR!
We took another short trip to Dad and Mom's to help with some more projects.  While there we dug for some worms in the compost pile.  Dad has the best worms in his compost and garden areas...great for fishing and feeding to the kid's toads.
Phoebe and Silas had their friends, Rayna and Isaac come over to hang out one afternoon.  They had fun together riding the go-kart and playing outside.
Uncle Ernie and Aunt Judy visit came to visit us for a couple days.  They had hoped to see Silas and Phoebe play ball, but the rain moved in and they only got to watch one game of Silas's.  We still enjoyed spending time with them visiting at our house and the hotel during their stay.  Judy and I even squeezed in a little antique store shopping one afternoon.
Memorial Day weekend brought the traditional grave decorating and eating lunch together with some of the Hastings family.  Below, my Uncle Charles by Charles and Hazel Hastings grave in Greenwood Cemetery in south Wichita.  He was named after this relative.
The girls and Silas were a big help to Popee with getting the flowers out and attached or in the ground of several relatives and friends in the Greenwood Cemetery and Clearwater Cemetery.
Below our Hastings crew that day, left to right, Charles, Wyonna, Dale, Johannah, Hayley, Jan, Zach, Jordan, Silas, Paul, Gloria, Jerry, Stacee, Sarah, and Phoebe.
Phoebe and Sarah were invited to their good friend Haylee's birthday party.  They had a good time going out to eat, ice skating, decorating the cake together, playing games, and spending the night.  LOTS of LAUGHS that night!
The kids and I were checking on the toads one day after some storms went though....Phoebe looked in and exclaimed, "There's a turtle in there!"  Sure enough a tiny Red-Earred Slider had fallen in with the toads.  We got him out and decided to keep the tiny guy for awhile.  The kids named him Maui.  We have an aquarium set up for him with the special lights, and the kids have liked observing him and learning about Red-Earred Sliders.
