Things In June

Last October Sarah wrote an essay about being a leader in her school and community.  She wanted the extra credit that was offered for writing this essay...but won the judges over, getting the extra credit and winning the spot (all expenses paid) to represent her High School as one of their leaders at the Kansas HOBY Leadership Conference, held in Manhattan at KSTATE June 1-4.  Silas, Phoebe, and I dropped her off on Thursday and we picked her back up on Sunday.  She had an amazing time and got to be among some of the highest quality of youth leaders in the state of Kansas selected by their teachers and administrators for being LEADERS! Keep shining, Sarah!
Below, Sarah's HOBY group.  They had a Disney theme throughout the conference.  Her group was themed with the Jungle Book story.  There were 14 groups in all. Each group had between 6-10 kids in it. Some of the other groups were Moana, Bug's Life, Starwars, Lilo and Stitch, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille.
We attended the closing ceremony on Sunday, were each HOBY attendee was recognized as a leader among youth in Kansas.
While Sarah was at the HOBY conference in Manhattan, we got a chance to visit some of our friends who we have not seen in quite a while.  Silas, Phoebe, and I had lunch and visited with my college roommate, and one of my greatest friends, Summer on Thursday.  Then on Saturday we went to our friend's Rex and Angie's house to visit eat dinner and hang out with them.  Eric has been friends with Rex and Angie for a very long time.  They are from the same town and grew up down the road from each other.  Rex was also the best man in our wedding.
Softball and Baseball for Phoebe and Silas came to an end. Silas's team got to play in the end of season tournament and took second place.  It was a great season and a good way to end the season for this team.
The girls and I went and got pedicures.  Our toes are summer ready.
Lucy loves sleeping in Sarah's bed...night times, nap times, rest times....
We attended the Lyon County Hand In Hand Hospice Butterfly release with Dad.
We went to eat some delicious Mexican food after the Butterfly Release.  Silas ordered the Macho Burrito!
Our chicks are getting bigger. They are spending more and more time outside.  I hope to transition them into the coop and run with the other five hens soon.  We've had a couple trial runs with them altogether, but it has not gone too well.  We have one hen who is relentless in picking on our two fluff head chicks. Phoebe and I trimmed the fluff heads head feathers hoping it would help them see better and thus get away from the hen who kept picking on them, but I' not sure it helped much at all.
Sarah played in an JV volleyball tournament in Salina in mid June. The first game was rough, but the girls played better together after the first game.

Sarah has played in several summer league basketball games with the girls from her High School team, that were available to play and wanted to put in some extra work and practice over the summer.
We enjoyed smores around our firepit one evening.
One evening at Popee's house we got him on the front yard swing with the grandkids...
Will was in the children's production of Snow White.  He was the cutest tree ever!

We took our annual Father's Day picture with the kids homemade "Happy Father's Day" signs, and then let Eric pick his favorite for our collage frame.
(On the floor, wrapped in a blanket), Eric's mystery Father's Day gift......  He had no idea what it was....
A new KC Chiefs chair!
I tried to sneak a few pictures of my hottie one day as he was finishing up chain sawing some trees up and loading them in our trailer.  Camo, muscles, and a hard-working man... Thank you, God, for my husband.
Dad had a couple baby Turtledoves that hung around his front porch for about a week before flying away.
Sarah attened the ESU basketball team camp with a group of her teammates from school.
She had a fun cheering section for most of the games at ESU.  Below, left to right, Lindsee, Silas, Phoebe, Will, Sarah, Popee, Karen, and Stacee.
We got to go fishing at Mitch and Karen's farm pond one evening.  We caught lots of Blue Gill and Bass.  Phoebe (on a dare) decided to kiss a few of the fish she caught before throwing them back in the water.
I have a Toad living in my flowers in my front flower bed.
We had a Garage Sale at Dad's house in June.  Will, Phoebe, and Sarah had a little snack stand.
It was a hot, but fun, day selling our old things in Dad's driveway.
Silas had a good cheering section for his baseball tournament games.
I captured this beautiful sunrise out my bedroom window in June.
Dad took Phoebe and Silas to the fireworks stand that Sarah was volunteering at near our house.  They bought a bunch of little fireworks to shoot during the daytime and some for the evening at dark.
Sarah told us about fireworks safety... "Light. Throw. Get Back!" Safety first.

Silas's baseball team met at Braum's to enjoy some ice cream together one evening after their tournament.
