What We Did In August

Sarah got to take a little overnight trip to KC with her bestie Jax, and her family.  They did some shopping, went to Dave and Buster's, and helped Jax's brother get moved in for his freshman year at college.
We celebrated Silas's 11th birthday with his friends.  He had a little party and we went to The Arcade for party of it where we all played lots of video games for about two hours.
We ate fruit pizza for dessert at his party and we had a DQ ice cream cake on his actual birthday.
There was a big Spider who was building a web nightly on one corner of our front porch.  Spiders are so fun to watch.  Eric fed this one bugs in the mornings and sometimes in the evenings.
One morning Silas discovered this Locust coming out of it's shell.  We watched it for awhile and then Dad and I held it once it was out of its shell.
Sarah was selected to be part of the high school link crew this year.  Link Crew members help with freshman orientation and assist a group of freshman throughout the school year.  They had a couple of planning days before the first day of school.  Below is a group picture of all of this year's Link Leaders.
Sarah and her partner did a western theme for their group on orientation day.  Sarah took Cowboy hats and stick on mustaches for each freshman in their group, sheriff's badges and stick horses for her and her partner.  They had a lot of fun and did a good job with their group.
The kids and I got to go fishing at Mitch and Karen's with Dad.
Silas hooked a big Channel Cat, but had to have Popee help him get it in.....
Eric and Silas took a little Kayaking trip on the local river.  The water is down, but Silas said he had fun floating in the water behind his kayak and cooling off in the water.
Silas's first day of school was Wednesday, August 16th.  He is a fifth grader this year, so it's the last year of elementary school for him.

Below, Silas and his fifth grade friends... Isaac, Owen, Camden, and Noland.
Phoebe's first day of eighth grade was Thursday, August 17th.  This is the last year of middle school for her.
Thursday, August 17th was also Sarah's first day of her Junior (tenth grade) year of high school.
Sarah was excited to find out she made the high school volleyball team again this year!
Phoebe made the eighth grade A volleyball team! She is the setter again for her team this year.
Popee made it to the girls first home volleyball games of the season.  We are always so glad to have him with us, cheering on our kids.
I caught Belle sitting on front porch looking around one day.... Good dog!

Turning Eleven, the Party & the Day

We had a birthday party for Silas on August 6th.  He invited some friends to go to The Arcade, we ate dinner together, and they played outside at our house.
Above, Knova, Arnez, Owen, Isaac, Silas and Camden.
Back at the house the boys played some badminton and basketball.
Eric grilled hot dogs for dinner.  We all ate together, Silas opened his gifts from his friends, and then the boys went out and played some wiffleball, then lastly ate fruit pizza before all the boys went home.
The boys split into two teams, and Eric was the all-time pitcher.
Silas requested fruit pizza for his birthday party dessert.
After the boys all went home, Silas opened his gifts from Popee.  He got fishing gear and money.  Thank you Popee!
On the day of Silas's birthday we had some birthday doughnuts for breakfast.  And, he picked Gambino's Pizza buffet for dinner.
After dinner, back at home, Silas opened his gifts.  He got some new clothes, the Super Mario Brotthers movie, books, and two new Miami Dolphins football jerseys.... Phoebe and Sarah both gave him a stuffed animal - Wolf that he had been wanting since we visited the Wolf Sanctuary in Colorado a few weeks ago. He got a Visa gift card in the mail from Grandma Sharon.
Later that evening, we ate some delicious Dairy Queen ice cream cake.
Happy Birthday Dear Silas!
Happy 11th birthday, Silas! You are kind-hearted, intelligent, funny, inquisitive, caring, high achieving, competitive, crazy athletic, a good friend, student, and brother, a rule follower, a leader among your peers...and an all around fantastic son!  I love you so very much!  I am so glad that you agreed that you will never be too old to hold my hand. I am so thankful for your heart for others and the hugs that you give me when you see me feeling down.
Love, Mommy
