Silas Basketball - Fall Session One

September 7th - Game #1 - 4:00
We started another session of YMCA advanced basketball.  I am helping coach our team the Mambas.  Our first two games of the season were a double header against the same team.
We started off the season with a close win, 41-40.
September 7th - Game #2 - 6:00
The second game didn't go as well.  We played flat and never really were in the game.
We lost by 7, 28-35.
September 14th - Game #3 - 5:00
We had a few kids who decided they did not want to play anymore so we are down to 6 players.  I was happy with our effort and ability to play aggressively for extended periods of time.
We were up by one with a few minutes left in the game, but lost a close one 35-31.  We were happy with how the team played.
September 21st - Game #4 - 3:00
We knew going into this game that we were playing one of the toughest teams in the league.  They are big, fast, and well coached.  We fought hard and played good basketball but lost 38-23.  We were intimidated on offense and were throwing up quick shots instead of running an offense.  Silas is very active on the court and a pretty good three point shooter.
September 28th - Game #5 - 5:00 pm
We played a close game against a good team but lost 36-33.
We are always the smallest team.
Silas has been doing a good job with shooting free throws.
October 5th - Game #6 - 4:00 pm and Game #7 - 6:00 pm
We played two games today.  The first team was against the undefeated team.  The YMCA director said this team scrimmaged a highschool team and beat them.  They were extremely good and beating teams by 50+ points every game.  We only lost by 36.  We fought hard and it was good for our team.
The second game was against the winless team in the league.  We didn't play great but won by 31, 51-19.
Silas is always hustling and doesn't mind getting on the floor.
Silas going up for a dunk (below)😄.  This was an impressive layup that he made.
October 12th - Game #8 - 6:00 pm
We played our last game of the regular season and finished on a high note.
Nice Form!  Silas made some threes and finished with 11 points.
End of Season Tournament Game #1 - 7:30 pm
We played in the end of season tournament.  The bottom 4 teams of the 8 team league played in this tournament.  We were the 2nd seed and replayed the team we just beat easily.  This game wasn't quite as easy.  We won but it was close.  30-26.
Tournament Game #2 - 7:30 pm
We made it to the championship game.  We came out playing well and continued through the end of the game winning easily.  We ended up the season with a 500 record of 5 wins and 5 losses.

Our September

Student athletes greeted elementary students on Friday mornings in September. Sarah enjoyed seeing, high-fiving, and welcoming the students.
Phoebe and I got to go to one of Will's soccer games in September. He played hard the entire game. He hustles and knows the game. Keep it up, Will!
Nothing like a little impromptu arm wrestling in Wendy's while waiting for your dinner....
We got to go to the Katy Nicole and Casting Crowns concert on Wednesday night at the Kansas State Fair with our church's youth group. Casting Crowns in one of my favorites!
I washed Lucy's bed one day this month. While it was washing and drying I found her asleep on the hard counter.
Sarah's senior volleyball poster pictures were taken, printed, and hung in the high school gym.
Sarah was awarded for being in the top 10% of her class. When I asked her what her official ranking was, she told me that she is 14th out of 351! AMAZING! Go SARAHJ!
We've been going to a lot of freshmen, JV, and Varsity Volleyball games.
The freshmen volleyball team played in a tournament towards the end of September. Their team took third place!
Sarah, Phoebe, and Addi helped sell raffle tickets to raise money for the girls and boys basketball teams one evening at a home football game.
We attended the Hutton Block Party on September 21st. The party was held at Botanica this year.
My birthday was on a Sunday this year. The kids and Eric got me some good gifts...snacks that I love, fall decorations, and a few handmade gifts.
Later that afternoon, we went shopping and then went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse for dinner. After dinner, back at home, we ate one of my favorite birthday cakes that Eric and Phoebe made for me. YUM! Happy 47th birthday to me!
See You At The Pole (SYATP) was on Wednesday, September 25th this year. Eric and Silas participated at his middle school. The girls went early to pray at the high school flag pole. A group met before the girls got there, but a smaller group formed later too.
Dad and Phoebe posed for a fun fall picture at Atwoods when we made a quick trip there one evening to buy some new chicks.
We brought home three new chicks from Atwood's. They are Buff Orpington chickens. We lost three of our best layers in the last couple months, so we needed to add back to our little flock. (We lost Clover in a stray dog attack. Ruby got sick/possibly egg bound and died. And, my favorite chicken, Elsa died protecting the flock from a Raccoon that wiggled its way into our coop. The Raccoon also got a hold of three of our other chickens, injuring them, but not killing them. The worst of the injured, but still living, was Honey. She has recovered alright, but has not started laying eggs normally again yet.) I named these three new chicks Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather - the good fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
I caught Belle sitting on one step with half her body one morning. Silly dog.
Silas and Phoebe were baptized on Sunday, September 29th at our church by our Pastor, Grant Ledbetter and his cousin, Matt Brooks. Dad, Charles, and Wyonna joined us that morning at church.
