Silas Basketball - Winter Session

Game #1 - Saturday, January 18th 3:00
We started another session of YMCA basketball.  We have now been playing for over a year.
The competition isn't going to be great this session.  We have been playing up in age but this year the 12u/13u is combined.  I believe since middle school is currently in their basketball season, the 7th and 8th grade boys are not playing YMCA basketball.  We won this game easily 58-20.  Silas made a three and some free throws.
Game #2 - Saturday, January 25th 4:00
This was another easy win.  Silas was coming off a sickness so didn't play much.  We won 58-41 but it was closer than it should have been.
Game #3 -Tuesday, January 28th 5:30
We played against a big, athletic team.  I am told they are a pretty good football team.  Big and athletic doesn't mean they are skilled basketball players.  Silas started off the game with a made 3 pointer and then scored with a floater.  He was over his sickness, so was back to playing aggressive defense.  We won 38-23.
Game #4 - Saturday, February 1st 5:00
We played a pretty decent team this week called the Jags.  We played good basketball and won 60-41
Game #5 - Saturday, February 8th 3:00
We played the Jags again.  We were aggressive and our 1-3-1 half court trap was hard for the other team to break.  This was another easy win for us. Silas made a three and a few free throws.
Game #6 - Saturday, February 15th 3:00
This was a rematch against the aggressive football team.  We only had 5 players and they only had 5 players.  They started out the game up 10 points.  We were able to get them into foul trouble and they even subbed in a player from their 14u team.  We pulled away and ended up winning by 10.  #3 pushed Silas and received a technical foul.
Lindsee, Eric and Will were in attendance.  There also was a snowstorm during the game.
Game #7 - Tuesday, February 18th 7:30 (cancelled due to weather and rescheduled) Tuesday, February 25th
No pictures because Stacee was at the girls' basketball games.
This game was totally lopsided.  We had beaten this team by 40 the first game of the season and won this time by 70.  We tried to score 100 (not my idea) and ended up with 90.
Game #8 - Saturday, March 1st 3:00
This game was a forfeit.  Guessing they didn't want to play us after seeing the score of the last game we played.
End of Session Tournament
We were supposed to play a game on Monday night and a championship game on Wednesday.  Two of the teams forfeited so it was a three team tournament.  We played the Proskills team.  They did have some skills but were unable to keep up with us.  We won by 20.
Popee was there to see us win the Championship.
Next session should be more competitive because the middle school aged boys should be returning.  Good job Mambas with winning another Championship.

Our January 2025

We used our wood-burning stove a lot in January. Both people and animals love to sit around it and enjoy the warmth.
Our cat and dogs love to be around us...especially at night, before bedtime they hang out in bedrooms and try to look cute so someone will want them to sleep in their bedroom.
We got enough snow to go sledding in early January. School was cancelled. We waited for Eric to get home from work and then we drove to a nearby hill for some fun.
Dad was at our house on a cold January day. He got all bundled up before going outside. He has started wearing a scarf which can serve as a hat too.
Look at that beautiful January snow and sunrise! Amazing work, God!
We had two Meadowlarks come to our birdfeeders.
The snow was especially beautiful at night around our house. It covered everything.
Sarah's varsity basketball team got their first win of the season over Wichita West! Yay!
Lucy, Belle, and Gus had a meeting of the minds in the hallway one morning.
Sarah was nominated as a Homecoming candidate. I helped her make a "Burn Book" (from the movie Mean Girls) to use as a prop for the Winter Homecoming Pep Assembly. She and her walking partner, Vincent, had to create a handshake and walk into the assembly together. Each partner group picked a "Spirit Day" to represent as well. Sarah and Vincent picked "We Wear Pink on Wednesdays".
They looked amazing! Their handshake was definitely the best, most creative, and they got the most cheers. It was fun to get to be there to watch.
