Days Spent With Popee And Nanee

The kids and I spent July 9th - 14th with Nanee and Popee while the kids attended VBS at their church.  VBS was in the evenings from 6pm - 8pm, so during the daytimes we had fun doing a lot of other activities.  Even though it was a VERY hot week we still managed to do some things outside in the mornings, and found some cooler activites to do inside during the afternoons.

What was your favorite Bible story from one of the nights at VBS?
*Sarah:  "David and Goliath"
*Phoebe:  "Esther"
*Silas:  "There was Esther and Goliath.  I think David and Goliath and Esther were my favorite."
Tell me how one of your favorite VBS cheers went.
*Sarah:  "You're here - You're here.  You're here.  We are happy that you are here.  Gonna have big fun till the time is done.  You're here.  You're here.  You're here. Wahoo!"
*Phoebe:  "Move and Grove - We're done sittin down.  It's time to move around and while we move around we'll stomp our feet and shake the ground.  Move and grove.  It's time to move and grove.  Say What?  Move and grove.  It's time to move and grove."
*Silas:  "My favorite was my cheer.  It goes like, The B- I- B.  The B-I- B- L- E.  Yes that's the book, that's the book for me.  I stand (clap clap) alone (clap clap) on the word (clap clap) of God (clap clap).  The B- I- B.  The B-I- B- L- E."
What was your favorite song this year from the VICTORY VBS?
*Sarah:  "Jesus is the Rock and Victory"
*Phoebe:  "The Victory one and He Leadeth Me"
*Silas:  "I am a Soldier in the Army of the Lord" and "There is Victory in Jesus".
What are some things that you really liked/enjoyed about the VICTORY VBS?
*Sarah:  "the snacks and the games and the songs"
*Phoebe:  "I like the crafts and singing the songs at the end and beginning."
*Silas:  "The snack at the end and playing games.  I liked all the stuff."
What were some of your favorite foods Popee and Nanee made for us while we were at their house that week?
*Stacee:  "This was a good week for homemade food at Mom and Dad's house.  Some of the best were Banana Cake, Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, cooked squash, cucumbers and onions, ham and beans and potatoes, and fresh garden tomatoes."
*Sarah:  "I liked the Butterscotch Cookies, mashed potatoes and gravy, and the cucumbers."
*Phoebe:  "Ham and beans and potato soup, macaroni and cheese, chocolate no-bake cookies, and I loved the Banana Cake."
*Silas:  "Everything.  Macaroni and cheese.  Popsicles and Butterscotch cookies."
What did you help Popee with in his garden?
*Sarah:  "Once he dug the potatoes then we got them and put them in the bucket."
*Phoebe:  "Getting potatoes and getting worms."
*Silas:  "I picked up worms and potatoes."
How many potatoes do you think you helped him dig up?
*Sarah:  "30 little potatoes."
*Phoebe:  "like...50."
*Silas:  "89"
How many worms do you think you found in Popee's garden?  What did you do with them all?  How big was the gigantic worm?
*Sarah:  "10 big worms.  We caught fish with them.  The big was as big as Popee's hand all the way up to his wrist."
*Phoebe:  "Um, 20.  We fished we them.  I think the big worm was 11 inches long and it was fat.  Popee found it and I put it in the bucket."
*Silas:  "Um.  85.  We saved them for fish bait.  There was a really big worm, but it died overnight so we couldn't use it."
Did you help fill up the water balloons for the first big water balloon fight?  What was your job?
*Sarah:  "I tied the balloons and put them in the buckets."
*Phoebe:   "My job was handing empty balloons to Mommy for her to put water in."
*Silas:  "Yes.  I put the balloons in the buckets."
Tell me about the water balloon throw and catch game that you played.
*Sarah:  "If you catch a balloon you get to keep it and then throw it at someone else."
*Phoebe:  "One person sat in the chair and then the other people threw water balloons at them.  I liked sitting in the chair the most."
*Silas:  "One person sat in the chair and you have to try to catch the balloon and if you don't you get splattered.  If you get splattered and you don't catch any you don't get any extras.  I caught a big blue one."
Who do you think got the wettest during the water balloon fight?
*Sarah:  "Popee probably."
*Phoebe:  "First Popee.  Then me."
*Silas:  "Me!"
After the water balloons were all popped there was a good old fashioned water fight.  Tell me about that.
*Sarah:  "We had buckets and threw water on each other.  When I got to the end of my bucket I dumped the rest of the water on his head."
*Phoebe:  "Each kid had a bucket full of water.  We threw it on each other.  Popee had the hose."
*Silas:  "Popee got the most water.  He made me drop mine a lot.  It was really fun.  It was really funny when Popee sprayed me.  I was trying to sneak up on him and then he sprayed me."
What kind of Sister Sno Cone did you have to eat?
*Stacee:  "I had the "Spartan", a delicious blend of cherry and black cherry.  I will probably be stuck on this mix of flavors for a while."
*Sarah:  "Orange and Vanilla, that was the Disc Golfer."
*Phoebe:  "Grape"
*Silas:  "Root Beer"
We got to see two movies with Popee and Nanee while we were visiting them, Cars 3 and Despicable Me 3.  Which did you like better?  Why?  What was your favorite part?
*Sarah:  "Despicable Me 3.  It was more funny.  I liked when he met his brother."
*Phoebe:  "Despicable Me 3.  I liked it.  It was really funny."
*Silas:  "I liked both.  (Cars 3) When they raced around the mud track with Miss Fritter and her friends.  (Despicable Me 3)  When they tried to get the diamond back.  When Gru told his brother that the thorns would blow up his mind."
Shirley came over to do some science experiments with all of us, or "magic" like she likes say.  Which experiment did you like best?
*Sarah:  "The one where you tried to blow up the balloon in the bottle."
*Phoebe:  "I liked all of them."
*Silas:  "Both of the bottle things.  One was the paper one and the balloon one.  The bottle was filled with air.  Shirley tricked me because the hole in the bottle was not in mine.  It was in hers, so we couldn't blow up the balloon."
What did you learn from Shirley's experiments?
*Sarah:  "I learned that air takes up space."
*Phoebe:  "I learned that a balloon will pop when an orange peel gas gets on it."
*Silas:  "That we should buy the ball that if you throw it really high it changes to a different color."
What was different about our second water balloon fight of the week?
*Sarah:  "The balloons were really big and some of them funny shapes, like a hot dog."
*Phoebe:  "We had different balloons.  They were crazy shapes and bigger."
*Silas:  "It was in a different spot in the yard.  The balloons were different.  They were really big."
Which shape/kind of balloon was the hardest to catch?  Which one was the easiest?
*Sarah:  "The really big ones were the hardest to catch.  The easiest were the little tiny ones."
*Phoebe:  "The hardest was the BIG ones.  The easiest was the little ones."
*Silas:  "The really really big ones.  But the little ones were easy.  Remember the one they filled with air?  When they throwed it we thought it was a water balloon but it was an air one.  It didn't even fly like one.  It didn't hit anybody."
What did you catch when we went fishing with Popee?
*Sarah:  "A Catfish."
*Phoebe:  "Perch.  Popee caught a turtle and some other fish."
*Silas:  "Perch and Bass"
What do you like to talk to Grandma Great about when we go to visit her?
*Stacee:  "I love to ask her questions about when she was a little girl.  She has some great stories to tell about herself, her sister Shirleen, and brother Marvin.  I also love to hear her stories about when her four children were young, especially when the first two were born, the twins, Sharon and Karen."
*Sarah:  "We talk about school a lot."
*Phoebe:  "School"
*Silas:  "I think everything."
What treat did you have from the Sweet Granada this time?
*Stacee:  "My two favorites, Pop Choc and Avalanche."
*Sarah:  "I had cookie dough fudge."
*Phoebe:  "A pretzel with caramel and chocolate on it.  It was a big pretzel stick."
*Silas:  "A chocolate baseball on a stick."
