Upward Basketball 2018 - Week #7

**GUEST BLOGGER**
 ~ Eric Hendrickson ~

Popee and Nanee came to watch this week.  Phoebe's teacher also came to watch Phoebe again but we did not get any pictures with him this time..

Silas - Game #7 - 8:30
Silas did what resembled a cart wheel for his introduction.  (It was funny.  He does not know how to do a cart wheel.)  We told him later that day that it would be best not to do that one again.
Silas played tight on this boy the entire game.  The boy was getting tired of it and pushed Silas a few times.  It didn't stop Silas from sticking on him like Velcro.
I had to leave at half time to coach Phoebe's game.
Silas scored 4 baskets.

Phoebe - Game #9 - 9:30
We had 3 girls out sick this week so our 4 remaining girls had to play a double header.
For the first game, the other team only had 3 girls (of course their 2 best girls were there).
Much of the game Phoebe was playing on the tall girl.  It is hard to get a shot off when playing that girl.
Our girls were only down 9 to 4 at half.  I was very impressed with their play.
Play for Jesus!
We ended up losing the game 24 to 8 but this was our best game played for the year.  Phoebe had 2 points.  Our girls rose to the level of their competition.  Girls were passing, setting screens, and handling the ball.  I only give out the "Christ-like" star for special reasons and I gave each girl a Christ-like star for their efforts on the court during this game.

Phoebe - Game #10 - 10:30
We turned right around and played game #2.  Our girls were tired but ready to play.
The girl Phoebe played on was very aggressive and for the most part was single handedly out scoring us.
We were down 8 to 5 at halftime.
Macy missed the first free throw.  I told her to use her legs for the second one.  She did and she made her second shot.
Phoebe played tough tough defense for both of this mornings games.  She protected the ball well, went for rebounds, and was on the ground fighting for every single jump ball.  Way to go, tough girl!
Nice looking shot Phoebe!  She ended up with 4 points.  Our team lost a tough game 21 to 12, but I was impressed with their effort and watching the great improvement by our team.

Sarah - Game #9 - 1:30
Another weekend playing the team that has now beat us 3 times in a row.  Unfortunately, the other team's coach had taken 3 of the core girls from that team to play in a basketball tournament out of town this weekend.
Nice form on that free throw Sarah!
Since the other team was short on players, the church recruited a girl that was on my team last year (she is now a 7th grader).  She is a good player and Sarah got to guard her.  They also recruited a cheerleader so that they would have enough girls to play.
We didn't play great, but we did win 22-9.  Sarah had a good game and scored 13 points.  Next week is our last week and we play 2 games.  If we win both, we will have the best record.

Upward Basketball 2018 - Week #6

**GUEST BLOGGER**
 ~ Eric Hendrickson ~

Silas - Game #6 - 8:30
Maybe Silas was flying for his introduction (above).
No peeking.
Silas was shooting some far shots (near the blue line), which I didn't think was necessary (especially when he could have gotten closer).  Then, Stacee said they worked on shooting at this location at their practice during the week.
I only got to watch the game until half time.  Silas ended up with 8 baskets.

Phoebe - Game #8 - 9:30
Illness had our team of 7 down to a team of 4 this week.
We started off well the first period and we were up 15-10 at halftime.
Phoebe made 1 of her 2 free throws.
I think we played our most complete game of the season.  We passed well and set screens, which we haven't really done all season.  However, we missed many easy shots and the other team played their best game of the year.  We lost 29 to 30.  It was a frustrating loss.  Phoebe played well and had 9 points.

Sarah - Game #8 - 2:30
We had a 4 hour break between Sarah and Phoebe's games so we went home.  I was able to do some painting and listen to a KSU victory.
We had all of our girls except 1.  She has missed the last 2 weekends due to illness.
We have been stressing rebounding for a few weeks.  Looks like we still need to work on blocking out.
Sarah was dribbling with her head up.  This allowed her to find some open teammates in the lane for some easy baskets.  Good job Sarah.
Sarah played against some of her friends from school, Hannah and Savannah.  When Sarah wasn't handling the ball, she was doing a good job of setting screens.
We worked on our in bounds play this week at practice.  The team did ok at running it.
We were up 12 to 7 at half and weren't playing very well.
Sarah played hard the entire game.  She was supposed to sit out the last period, but she had to fill in  for a girl on our team that was not feeling well the last period.
We had few point lead going into the last period.  We scored a few baskets and won 26 to 21.  Sarah had 14 points.

Upward Basketball 2018 - Week #5

**GUEST BLOGGER**
 ~ Eric Hendrickson ~
This week's special guest was Phoebe's teacher.  Not only is he Phoebe's teacher, but these other kids as well.  Kids, left to right, Shawna, Phoebe, Haylee, and Camden.

Silas - Game #5 - 8:30
Silas had a big introduction (jump and spin) that Stacee caught perfectly on camera.
Before each game there is prayer.  How cute is this?
Silas got to play velcro defense on a different kid this week.
Silas played well and had 13 baskets.  Both teams are playing much better from the start of the season.

Phoebe - Game #7 - 10:30
Another rematch with the team we play close but just can't quite beat.
Our team started off tentative and the other was not, so we dug a big hole for ourselves the first half,  22-6.
Phoebe gave 110% as she does every week.
We ended up outscoring the other team the second half, but we still lost 42-31.  Phoebe had 9 points.

Sarah - Game #6 - 1:30
We had a good practice this week and I was able to ask for forgiveness from the refs and from our team for not being a good example at our last game.
We didn't have a great first half and were down 10-9.
Sarah, your shot looks great!
We played better the second half and finally got a lead.
The other team played a much better game than previous ones.  They were setting picks and getting easy shots.  This was a hard fought win, 22-18. Sarah had 10 points.

Sarah - Game #7 - 2:30
The second game of a double header is tough and we always get to play this team as our second game.  We had the lead the entire game the last time we played a double header, but ran out of gas towards the end.  I was hoping we would have some gas at the end of this one.
This was a hard fought game.  We were down 14-4 at half.
We just couldn't get shots to fall, but our girls played hard.
We ended up losing 25 to 14 but our play was better than the final score.
I enjoyed handing out stars this week.
Play for Jesus!
