Right on the heels of volleyball ending, Sarah had 8th grade basketball try-outs. She made the 8th grade A team. With Covid numbers increasing in our area, practices and games were a little crazy and the schedule was always changing this season, along with our available players (due to positive Covid cases, and students AND teachers having to quarantine)...which made it a very interesting season to say the least.
Above, back row, left to right, Coach Gamble, Kailyn, Brooke, Jax, Addie, Kenna, Rilynn, Sarah, and Coach Shipman. Front row, left to right, Emmi, Avery, Taylor, River, Alexis, Mercedez, and Rainna.
Coach Gamble and Coach Shipman did a great job of communicating with parents this season through emails. Below, I have included some of the stats and game thoughts that were emailed to parents after each game from the Coaches.
Game 1 vs. Cheney - 11/2/20
A team lost 14-39. Sarah led the team with 6 points. Brooke, Addie, and Jax each had 2 points. Emmi and Kenna had 1 point each.
Below, Sarah and her two good friends, Kenna and Brooke.
Game 2 vs Clearwater - 11/5/20
Our A team lost 35-19. Hendrickson led the team with 9 points followed by Jensen with 6. Seachris had 2 and Pfieffer and Dale each had 1 point. We saw improvement from the first game. We were in the right place more often on offense and defense.
Game 3 vs. Mulvane - 11/9/20
Unfortunately, Sarah did not get to play in this game. Several (about 70) students, in two separate incidents, were all placed in quarantine throughout the day. I was called about 4:35, 20ish minutes, prior to the game starting and told to come pick up Sarah for her two week quarantine because of a possible exposure on her bus. (To make this story short, Eric and I investigated this incident further and found that she did not fit the quarantine criteria that our school district was implementing. Eric and I both had a conversations with the district nurse. Eric presented the facts, and Sarah was allowed to come back to school mid morning the next day.) The team, of only 9 girls that was remaining, ended up playing only one game, with mostly B team girls and lost.
Game 4 vs. Prairie Hills - 11/12/20
We lost this game 27-19. We only played one game (a B game) due to only having 8 girls available to play today. Hendrickson led us with 13 points,. Dale added 4, and Payne two.
Game 5 vs. Rose Hill - 11/16/20
With 5 total girls able to play for us tonight, we played hard, but lost 21-30. Hendrickson led the team with 18 points, Payne had 2 and Seachris had 1.
Game 6 vs. Clearwater - 11/23/20
We only had 9 girls available to play both of the games tonight. B team lost in a heart-breaking, last second fashion 17-18. Hendrickson led the team with 10 points followed by Payne with 4. Jensen had 2 and Pfieffer had 1.
The A team fought hard with limited players available, and despite having a half-time lead, ran out of gas and lost 24-32. Pfieffer led the team with 8 points followed by Dale and Hendrickson with 6 each. Jensen had 4.
Game 7 vs. Wellington - 11/24/20
The B team lost 10-26. Hendrickson, Tibbets, Dale, and Payne, and Jensen had 2 points each.
The A team lost 23-44. Jensen led the team with 8 followed by Hendrickson with 7. Dale had 6 and Seachris had 2. Again, considering our battles with quarantine and lack of practice time, I was thrilled with the progress and determination that the girls showed.
Game 8 vs. Mulvane - 12/1/20
A team lost 13 - 16. Hendrickson led the team with 7 points followed by Dale with 3. Jensen added 2 points and Pfieffer had 1. We are proud of the effort and improvement last night. We feel like we are starting to see some things "click" and come together a little more on both sides of the ball. Aggressiveness on offense led to us getting 16 free throws.
Game 9 vs. Prairie Hills - 12/3/20
The A team lost 6 - 42. Hendrickson had 4 points and Pfieffer had 2.
Game 10 vs. Rose Hill - 12/7/20
The A team lost 33 - 16. Hendrickson led the team with 8 points. Dale had 4, and Pfieffer and Jensen each had 2.
Game 11 vs. Wellington - 12/10/20
The A team lost 29 - 41 in what was absolutely the best game we have played this year. We were thrilled with the bounce back from the Rose Hill game, which certainly was one of our poorest games of the year. Pfeiffer led the team with 10 points followed by Hendrickson with 9. Dale and Jensen each had 4 and Seachris had 2.
Tournament - 12/12/20
vs. Mulvane
The girls played their second well played game in a row, and came up just short losing 23 - 21. Hendrickson lead the team with 9 points followed by Jensen with 5. Pfieffer added 4 and Dale had 3. We were very pleased and proud of how the girls played.

Well, it was a disappointing season in regard to wins. Haysville is not known for having a good women's basketball program and I attribute much of that to coaching. There is a new highschool coach this year so maybe coaching will be better the next four years. We were not disappointed in how Sarah played this year. Last year, she wasn't aggressive enough driving to the basket. This year she was very aggressive driving to the basket. She averaged 8.7 points a game and had at least that many rebounds per game. She never quit on the court and would come home with bruises on her knees and elbows even in a game where they lost by 20 points. She was a team player and a leader. We are excited to see her play next year in high school.
