BLACK CHERRIES
Back row, left to right, Haylee, Coach Nicole, Phoebe, Coach Nevada, Reagan, Coach Kaitlyn (hidden behind Abigail), and Abigail. Middle row, Cadence, Anna, and Amelia. Front row, Hadley, Bella, Katie, and Shawna.
Game one vs. Derby 3 - May 13th
In the first game of the season for Phoebe's team they played well. The other team had a decent pitcher, fast but not super accurate, and there were a lot of walks. Phoebe got walked at all of her at-bats this game. Each time she got on base she stole her way around and scored for her team. Phoebe is fast around the bases and is paying close attention so that she doesn't miss an opportunity to steal. She has decided she likes to slide and stealing gets her more opportunities to practice sliding.
Phoebe played her favorite position, shortstop, and was able to catch a pop-fly to get an out during an inning for her team. Below, her teammates and friends, left to right, Phoebe, Shawna, and Haylee.
The Black Cherries won this game by 1 run.
Game two vs. Haysville 3 - May 13th
This was an our second game of the evening. The girls were pumped coming off their previous game's win. Phoebe played shortstop and left center.
She got walked and hit with a pitch to get on base and steal her way around to score for her team in this game as well.
We won this game 14 to 6.
Game three vs. Derby 1 - May 18th rescheduled June 2nd
Unfortunately Phoebe could not play in this game because she was already committed to attending a basketball clinic. Her softball team lost 15 - 5.
Game four vs. Wellington - May 20th
This was a close game. Almost 5 runs were scored by each team at each at bat, leading to a tie game. We went into an extra inning for the tie breaker and ended up losing by 1 run.
We lost 18 - 19
Game five vs. Conway Springs 1 - May 25th
This was a rough game. Our girls were hitting, but our fielding was not great. We had dropped balls. We were not aggressive, and we looked like we hadn't been practicing and didn't know what to do with the ball if there was a play in the infield or at home. Conway Springs was a good team. These girls played well together and knew what to do with the ball when our girls hit, thus making it hard for us to get our girls on the base and around the bases to score.
Phoebe only got up to bat once in this game. She hit a hard grounder down the 3rd base line, but was thrown out in a close play at 1st base.
We lost 15 - 1
Game six vs. Derby 2 - May 27th rescheduled June 9th
We lost this game 13 - 8. Phoebe got walked at both of her at-bats and stole her way around to score for her team.
Game seven vs. Udall - June 1st
The girls didn't play to well tonight. We didn't hit the ball much, and our defense was lacking. Phoebe got walked at her at-bats tonight.
Lost ? - ?
Game eight vs. Mulvane - June 3rd
The girls played better this game. We came out hitting and stole our way around the bases to keep the score reasonably close throughout the game.
Phoebe played shortstop, fielding some hard hit balls to help her team get some players out at 2nd base.
She had two at-bats, striking out once and getting walked once.
We lost 15 - 11.
Game nine vs. Winfield - June 8th
The Black Cherries lost this game 9 - 7. They are having problems fielding, not paying attention on defense, not knowing what to do with the ball when it comes to them, not catching the ball at 1st base to get the outs, and not making good throws. It has been frustrating for some of the players.
Shortstop is Phoebe's favorite position to play. She does an excellent job of running to cover 2nd base when a runner is stealing from 1st. Rarely is the ball even attempted to be thrown down to 2nd to get the runner out, but Phoebe is there and ready in case.
She is also quick around the bases, watching for the pitch to be released and taking off to steal her way around.
Game ten vs. Haysville 1 - June 10th
We were able to win this game by 1 run tonight.
Above, Phoebe, Haylee, Shawna, and Abigail.
Grandma Sharon was able to drive to Kansas to watch a few games. She got to watch tonight's game.
Game eleven vs. Conway Springs 2 - June 15th
We lost tonight. The game started out well in the first inning, but in the second inning positions were switched up in the field, and we began to fall behind. Again, players weren't paying attention and there was a lack of hustle.
Phoebe did a great job stealing around the bases again tonight, and sliding into home to help her team.
Grandma Sharon was here to watch this game too.
Game twelve vs. South Haven - June 17th
This was the last game of the regular season for Phoebe's team. They won this game tonight. It started out rough, but we were able to play through and get enough hits and walks to keep us in the game and to end up with the W.
Phoebe played shortstop and left center the entire season. She expressed interest in wanting to try third base, but did not get the opportunity.
Tournament - June 28th
Phoebe's team got to play in the end of the season league tournament on June 28th. They played one of the Conway Springs teams that they had previously lost to. This Conway team was seated one in the tournament. They (Conway) play great defense and have some girls who can throw the ball well. Abigail pitched well for our team, but was pulled after the first inning and a half to let some others have a chance to pitch in the tournament too. Phoebe played center field and short stop. She hit the ball hard when she was at bat and made a couple good plays in the field for her team. Unfortunately, we lost this game and were out of the tournament.
