March

Sarah made the High School softball team.  Games have started.  She is playing on the JV team.  The team is playing well so far.
We've been letting the chickens out to roam some when we are out in the yard.  They enjoy staying close to the house, taking dirt baths, and pecking around for bugs and other tasty snacks.
We got to celebrate Sarah's birthday in early March.  We celebrated all day with family.  We started out the day dipping all sorts of treats in melted chocolate.  We spent time outside together, ate lunch and dinner together, opened presents, and ate lots of yummy desserts.
Happy Birthday Sarah!
Silas's class (every student) has received a new book every month because of generous donations from parents and other adults this year.
Phoebe's choir performed their spring concert in mid- March.  They sang well.
Below, Phoebe and two of her friends, Shawna and Haylee.
The first day of Spring Break was a chilly one, but we bundled up and headed to the zoo with friends.
The girls and Eric went with our church group to help serve lunch to the homeless.  It was another cold day during Spring Break, and they were all happy to get back home and warm up around the fire.  I am so glad all three of these girls willingly wanted to participate in this part of our church ministry.  It was eye-opening for each of them and they are all ready to serve again.
The kids spent some time with friends go-karting, playing outside, and playing some games of wiffle ball as the weather warmed up a little towards the beginning of Spring Break.

Haylee got to go with us to visit Popee and Nanee for a few days during Spring Break.  We visited the David Traylor Zoo, the Sweet Granada chocolate shop, took pictures with as many of the downtown murals as we could find, played outside, and went fishing.
There were a few UNO Attack games played...
One day we took a special trip to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.  We toured the old house, barn, and ranch.  Then we took a long hike around one of the nature trails.

We fished at a friend's farm pond.  Normally we catch a lot here, but today we didn't catch much...at all.
We were entertained by these girls instead of by fish though.... When dared, without any hesitation, they both put the (gross, straight out of the ground) worm in their mouths! What?!?! Who are these crazies?  Yuck!
Silas was the only one of all of us to catch a fish.
We visited the Sedgwick County Zoo for a second time towards the end of the Spring Break week.  It was a little warmer this trip and we got to see some animals having fun and being fed.
These sweet friends (below - Rayna, Haylee, and Phoebe) have been so good for each other and share a sweet friendship.
The district-wide Art Fair was held in March.  Silas had a watercolor art piece entered and won a "Gold Sstar".
Phoebe had three pieces entered in the Art Fair - a yarn weaving, a glass mosaic, and an aquarium perspective drawing.  Her perspective drawing won second place for creativity.
Sarah is in a Fashion/Sewing class and had a pillowcase that she made entered into the Art Fair.  The fabrics she chose looked nice together.
The chickens have been getting more used to having our dog around.  Jessee ignores them for the most part and they watch her, but do not run away from her much anymore.
