Our May 2026

Silas's baseball season started in March. Most of the boys on his team have played together for years. The had team pictures taken in early May. Not all of our team members could be there and we were missing one Coach. Pictured below, Carson, Knova, Owen, Coach Eric, Landon, Blayne, Coach Kyle, Chaston, Silas, and Jude.
Sarah and Owen have been getting ready for their upcoming wedding. One weekend they helped me with flowers and staining some boards for picture backdrops and arches.

Sarah attended her friend Lily's wedding shower.
One Friday, in early May, storms and hail were predicted. I was supposed to sub that day in Pre-K. I decided to drive our van just in case it did hail. The van was our oldest, most run down vehicle. Instead of hail that day, a Pre-K parent who was there picking up her daughter from morning Pre-K, tried to pull into the parking spot beside me and hit the van. Instead of stopping when she realized she hit the van, she kept moving forward and damaging our van. Good grief! Thank goodness she was honest and told a teacher what she had done. I went out to the parking lot with her to observe the damage. I had her go ahead, from the parking lot and make a phone call to her insurance company to report what she had done and to start the claims process. Through the claims process it was decided that it was going to cost more to fix all the damage done to our van than what our van was worth. So it was totaled out and we said "good-bye" to our vehicle that we had driven for 14 years.
Sarah was not going to be home on Eric's birthday so she got him some snack gifts and gave them to him early.
Silas was honored/recognized for his service and membership in the National Junior Honor Society.
Silas had his last orchestra concert of the year. They sounded good. I am glad that he enjoys playing the violin.
He got to go on a G3 Zoo field trip with some of the students from his middle school. These G3 field trips are a reward a few times throughout the school year for students at his school who are well-behaved, turn in assignments, and continue to do well academically.
Eric has had a special guest at baseball practices this season. His old baseball coach from high school, Coach Griffith. He has been so kind to come to several practices and help the boys work on many skills.
Eric celebrated his 48th birthday. I am so glad that I get to hold his hand forever. The kids helped me make a fruit pizza for his birthday dessert.
Phoebe and I attended Addi's graduation party.
On Mother's Day we went to church, out to lunch, and flower shopping. Later that day we planted the flowers and enjoyed a cake that Silas and Phoebe made for me. I sure missed having Sarah with us this year, but when your kids grow up, they sometimes have other plans and have other things going on. Silas made me smile by wearing a sign taped to his chest that said, "I 💜 Mommy".
Phoebe brought home some of her ceramics projects that she made in her Ceramics One class. She really enjoyed this class this semester and was very creative with the projects that she chose to make.
We got a new truck! Eric was ready to drive a truck again and we looked at a lot of trucks to narrow down exactly what we liked and did not like. We ended up with this tough Ford, in a color I absolutely love. GREAT CHOICE!
Silas had his last 7th grade choir concert of the school year. The Silverbacks sounded fantastic!
Sarah helped her college roommate, Hannah, move out a few days before I went to Manhattan to help Sarah move out. Owen and I helped Sarah move out on Friday, May 15th. That night we ate at Vista in Manhattan.

After one of the baseball games in mid-May, Silas had three of his good friends, Knova, Landon, and Owen, over for the night and part of the next day.
Ralphie, Silas's Bearded Dragon, is slowly shedding his skin again. It was been awhile since his last shed.
The youth at our church led Wednesday night service on May 27th. They all sang a few songs together, Silas sang a solo, and Nate preached.
Phoebe wrote an essay about leadership in school and community last fall. She was one of two students selected to represent Campus High School at the HOBY Leadership Conference in Manhattan May 28-31. There were 186 students who were selected from all over Kansas.
We went to Manhattan to pick Phoebe up from HOBY. We enjoyed spending time together there, eating at some new places, attending church with Sarah and Owen, and then going to the closing ceremonies of the HOBY Leadership Conference.

Bandit, Owen's dog, came to visit us for a few days when Sarah and Owen had some out of town plans. He gets along well with our dogs. This time at our house he really liked hanging out with Belle.

Sarah was a bridesmaid in her friend Lily's wedding. She had a wonderful time helping Lily prepare for the wedding and being part of her big day.
One Friday Silas and I met Uncle Dale and Aunt Jan at an estate sale to help them load some things that they had bought for their "Old Church Antiques" business. We were almost done loading all of their purchases when we were offered this entertainment center/armoire for free if we could get it out of the upstairs bedroom and out of the house. I called Owen to see if he and Sarah would want it for the apartment if we could get it out of the house.... So, we gave it our best efforts. An hour and a half later, out of the bedroom doorway, onto a landing, down a flight of stairs, dismantling a railing, and out of the house into the trailer and we had it loaded. It took a lot of time and muscle but the four of us got it done. Silas was extra impressed with how strong Dale is. After getting everything loaded, we enjoyed a late lunch with Dale and Jan at "Sickies Garage". It was Silas and I's first time to eat there, and we gave it two thumbs up! The next day we picked up the large entertainment center/armoire from Dale and Jan's house and delivered it to Owen's apartment. We were glad to have Eric's help moving it in!
