"Water Park"

This morning I took the girls to Osage Park water fountains.  Sarah had been asking all week if we could go to the "water park", so this morning after breakfast we got our swimming suits on and headed to the "water park".

When we first arrived the water had not been turned on yet... so we waited.  I began to wonder if maybe it wasn't going to come on... but it did... right when the girls were both out in the middle of it!

It was a beautiful day, perfect for playing in the water.

There was lots of running.  Lots of screaming, and lots of laughing.

What a fun morning at the "water park".

Lovin' the Lake

I love going out to the lake with my family.  The girls love it too.  We got to go out again with my parents over the weekend.  Sarah was excited to swim and "look for seashells".

We anchored and swam around the boat for awhile.  We also swam to shore and found lots of small shells.  Popee happened to have a plastic jar to collect them in on shore and carry them back out to the boat.

Phoebe did great in the water and on the boat.  She did not once cry or try to get her life jacket off.  She was content to ride around in the boat, eat grapes, crackers and raisins, drink juice, sit by Nanee, and to swim a little bit with mommy, daddy, Sarah, and Popee.

Sarah has come so far this summer learning to swim with her life jacket on, and being brave.  She no longer has to be clinging on to someone or something.  She enjoyed riding in the front of the boat with Nanee and Phoebe... just relaxing!

Eric rode on the tube, sitting and laying.  Laying on it is definitely the way to do it.  The rider has more control when laying and can stay on the tube better and longer.

Then I skied.  I love to ski.  It is so easy for me and always has been.  I come right up out of the water every time.  Next, Dad skied.  And, yes folks, he's still got it!  He came right up out of that water too.  I know who I learned it from... my DAD.

Eric even got out there and gave it a few tries... He will for sure get it next time we go out.

 All in all, another fun day at the lake... until the boat got stuck in reverse.... yes, that's right, the boat got stuck in reverse.  So, we headed back in to the boat dock... in reverse.  Until, a nice couple pulled alongside us and offered us a tow.  Thank you nice couple.  It would have been a long ride going 2 mph in reverse back to the boat dock.  Now, I am just hoping that whatever is wrong with my parents boat is an easy inexpensive fix...

Her Little Cut

Over the weekend Phoebe got her first hair cut.  It was unplanned and very spur of the moment.  I actually had to be talked into it...

We were in Emporia and Sarah had an appointment to get her hair trimmed by our favorite hair lady, Kathy.

Kathy has cut and fixed my mom's hair, my hair, and my sister's hair for many many years.  Even though we don't live in Emporia anymore, I still schedule my appointments with Kathy when we are going to be in Emporia.  Kathy is from Emporia too and actually had my dad as one of her teachers when she was in High School.  She is such a nice lady and a great hair lady!

So, after Sarah got her hair trimmed Kathy really wanted to trim Phoebe's... just the front... where her hair hung down in front to her eyes and came to a little point....

So, after we talked about if for about five minutes and got some more opinions from others that were there in the shop, I sat in Kathy's chair with Phoebe in my lap, because Phoebe wouldn't sit up in the chair by herself, and let Kathy trim Phoebe's hair in the front.  She evened it up and it does look cute now.

Phoebe did not hold very still while sitting in the chair with me and she did not want to look up at Kathy.  She was a little bit of a hair cut challenge, but Kathy was up for it!  She gave Phoebe an orange plastic hair roller to hold and play with and that made Phoebe smile...

And, both girls got lollipops from Kathy before we left the shop.  Thanks Kathy for being a great hair lady!

Flip Flops or Boots?

I love my girls.  For the past two weeks I have enjoyed noticing differences and similarities between them.  It is amazing to me that even at young ages the differences and similarities that can be seen between these sisters.

My favorite difference right now is that when I say... "Go get your shoes so we can go."  They both run to their rooms and come back with completely different shoes... every time. 

Sarah comes back with one of her favorite pairs of flip flops...

And, Phoebe comes back with her one and only favorite pair of boots! Or "Boo", as she calls them.

Quilt #2 for Sister #1

I have been doing a lot of sewing lately.  Sewing for my mom, brother, sister, and daughters.  I have been working on twin size quilts for my girls, and t-shirt quilts for my siblings. 

The girl's quilts are being made with the same fabrics, but will be different designs.

My brother's first t-shirt quilt was made with all shirts from high school.  His next one will be made with shirts from trips and vacations as we were growing up.  Then his third will be made with shirts that were from when he was very little up through college.

My sister's first t-shirt quilt was made with shirts from trips and vacations.  Her quilt that I am just finishing up the top on now is made with shirts from elementary school through high school, and her third quilt will consist of shirts from college and beyond.

   

I complete the tops of these quilts, then have another lady quilt the back fabric on and bind the edges.  My sewing machine is not big enough to sandwich the whole thing together.  There is too much fabric, especially after adding the batting, and it does not shove through the smaller machines well.  I have tried this, and it all starts to look bunched and straight lines are often not very straight.  None the less, the finished quilts always turn out original and beautiful!
