Leaves and Trees

We still have lots of leaves on our two big Maple trees in our backyard, but one day last week the girls wanted to make a leaf pile and jump in.  So, we made a little pile and the jumping began...
Then the leaf throwing started...
Leaves and small leaf pieces were everywhere!  In their shirts, in their socks, in their hair, and down their pants!
With Daddy's help, they both like to "climb" one of the Maple trees and sit on a branch.
And, have hanging contests.... to see who can hang on the longest...

Halloween Bees

Happy Halloween from the little Hendrickson Bees!
Phoebe ~ Bee ~ Cutie
Silas ~ Bee ~ Happy
Sarah ~ Bee ~ Smiley
Phoebe and Sarah with their pumpkins before we went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood.
Silas was awake when we started to walk around, but quickly fell asleep inside his warm snuggly bee suit.  The girls walked up and down three streets in our community with us... ringing doorbells and using their manners... saying "trick-or-treat" and "Thank you".  Phoebe told us several times she was having fun.  She did not want to be left behind by Sarah as they were hurrying up to ring doorbells or back out to us as we waited in the driveways or by the curb for them.

As we were walking around We had been talking about the Charlie Brown Halloween movie and how Charlie Brown always got rocks.... At one house Sarah got a piece of candy that she did not like.  I heard her mumble as she came walking back down the driveway to me... "I would've rather had a rock."  SO FUNNY!  We also got to one house on our street just as the man ran out of candy... When walking back down his driveway I heard Sarah say, "He didn't have any treats, but he gave us a trick."
Here we all are at the end of trick-or-treating...

The girl's pumpkins from the pumpkin carving contest last Sunday looked great when they were lit up Halloween night.
The girls each dumped out their candy and went through it as soon as we got home... eating many pieces as they sorted.

October Schoolwork

We had our first Elementary parent/teacher conferences this month.  Sarah's teacher had lots of great things to say about Sarah.  It is nice to hear these things about Sarah being polite, working hard, and being a good friend.  Her teacher also told us Sarah is doing well learning in the classroom, participating and right where she should be academically.

Me: "Tell me about this picture below that you drew..."
Sarah: "It is daddy, mommy, Miranda, Emily, Maria, and Sarah and Phoebe.  We are, um, hiding from the rain.  Those are thunderclouds.  Somebody colored on my paper... See that line on the clouds?  B_ T_ did it."
Me: What is your favorite thing that you are learning at school?
Sarah: "How to listen.  I don't know what else."

Her class started to learn some sight words.  Below is the pumpkin slider that helps with recognizing the sight words.  They also learned about dental health this month and about emergencies and how to call 911.
Me: You had school pictures taken this month.  What did you wear?
Sarah: "I don't know which shirt and I don't know which pants."
On Halloween day Sarah got to wear her bee costume to school.  She took little candy bags and bags filled with grapes to share with each kid in her class.

Me: Did you have a party at school on Halloween?  What did you and your classmates do?
Sarah: "Yes. We got to march around and go into different classrooms and we got to eat lots of snacks."

Me: What kind of snacks did you get to eat?
Sarah: "Grapes, and cupcakes, but we didn't get to eat the cupcakes.  We are going to have them tomorrow.... Candy, and cheese, and more fruit, and a juice bag" (sounds like "duce" bag when Sarah says it).
Me: What other costumes did kids in your class wear?  What did they dress-up as?
Sarah: "Two bees, me and Maria... somebody was Pocahontas, and a turtle, and the pirates and Jaden was Captain Hook! Brody was a Prince. Kara was Cinderella.  We both rhyme... Kara - Sarah.  Braden T was an army guy.  Miranda was a witch."
Me: Did any of the teachers dress up?
Sarah: "A teacher dressed up like a spider.  And one was Boo on Monsters Inc.  And the three pigs!"
