Sarah continues to enjoy her teacher, school, and new friends!
She really has started to like to try drawing new and different things. In the pictures below she has drawn lots of fairies, a cow and its calf, ducks, a bat,and dogs.
Me: You got to go to a birthday party for one of the girls in your class in November... What did you like about it?
Sarah: "The candy. The games I played with all the kids. They were all older than me."
Sarah has been getting very excited about being able to read. She sees words and asks us throughout the day... "What does _ _ _ _ _ spell?" She is eager to learn and review the words that she does know already. Her teacher sent home a list of 18 sight words before Thanksgiving for her to learn and be tested on when school resumed after the holiday. If any student got all of the words right they would earn a prize. We made some flashcards to practice the words at home, and she learned them very quickly. Sarah missed four words on the verbal test, but got to retest a couple days later. She informed me that no one in her class had gotten all the words right. We continued to practice the words at home and I figured out why she had missed the four words.... She had sounded those words out. (No sounding out the words, because they are "sight" words.) So, I taught her a "trick", sounding the words out in her head, if she needed to. She thought this was great! The day of retesting came and she was the first and only one in her class to get all of the words right, earned a prize, and her whole class clapped for her! She was so happy... smiling from ear to ear!
Me: You get to have Centers in your classroom a couple times a week... Which one do you like the best?
Sarah: "My bestest one is the book center. It has a lot of books to read. And, the listening center. It has headphones and you listen to stories."
