Our Birthday Boy

Silas turned 5 on August 8th.  The kids and I had been at my parents on the 7th spending time with them and we spent the night there that night.  When we woke up on the 8th, Popee had a birthday breakfast surprise waiting for Silas at the kitchen table... A birthday cinnamon roll with 5 candles ready to be lit.  The plate was sitting on an old music box that spun around playing "Happy Birthday".
Popee lit the candles with his fishing pole lighter, (which amazed Silas.  He couldn't figure out how one of Popee's fishing poles could be on fire.)
Then Dad started the little music box spinning and we all sang along with the music, "Happy Birthday to you.  Happy Birthday to you.  Happy Birthday dear Silas.  Happy Birthday to you."  And on and on it went.
When we got back home, Silas could hardly wait for Daddy to get home from work so that he could open his birthday presents.  A couple of boxes had come in the mail, addressed to him, a few days prior to his birthday from Amazon.  He knew they were for him and REALLY wanted to see what was inside and who they were from.
He got a Batman Lego set and a firetruck from Phoebe.
There were clothes, a Disney Cars toy, a Cars pillowcase, books, a Lego set, and the Disney Cars 3 CD from Mommy and Daddy.
He got the Stinky Pig game and a car from Sarah.
There was a big box from Grandma Sharon that he was excited to open....
It was new bedding for his new big boy bed at our new old farmhouse, a quilt, pillow sham, and sports sheets.
One of his Amazon boxes was from Uncle Eric and Aunt Lindsee.  Inside he found Walkie Talkies and Paratrooper toys.  He couldn't wait to try out his new "Talkie Walkies"!  In fact, he wanted to stop everything and have Daddy put batteries in them right away.  Later that evening when the batteries were put in, he began to play with them... "(making scratchy noises) What'?  I can't hear you? (more scratchy noises) You're breaking up."  As he sat on the couch right next to Daddy who was holding the other Walkie Talkie.  "Can you hear me?  What are you doing Daddy?"
The other Amazon box was from Uncle Matt.  It was exciting too, the Cars 3 Mack Hauler truck!
Silas picked McDonald's for his birthday dinner and wanted to play at the park.  When we asked him why he picked McDonald's he told us that he loves their breakfast burritos.  And, that is exactly what he ordered, two breakfast burritos.  We had a little McDonald's picnic and then the kids played and we walked all around the park together.
They started right off, after eating dinner, on the merry-go-round.  How do kids do that?  Eat and eat and then spin and spin?  No one barfed, or even acted like they might be sick, just kept spinning, running, and playing, full bellies and all.
Then a little sliding, swinging, climbing, and teeter-tottering.
Sarah found a few of the rocks around the park that people have been painting and hiding for others to find and rehide.
The kids had fun trying to outweigh and balance Daddy on the teeter-totter.
I tried to get Silas to smile nicely for a 5 year old picture by the pond.  That lasted about two seconds and then I got lots of crazy faces.
Silly, surprised, angry, strong, happy, grumpy,
Serious, fighting, sad, scared, worried, shocked, mad.
Back at home later that evening we lit the candles on the homemade pumpkin cake that Silas had requested that I make for his birthday, and sang "Happy Birthday" to our dear sweet, growing up to fast, always gonna be my baby, Silas.
(You will be my Sweetie Petey Pie forever, Silas.)  I love you big boy!
Happy Birthday!
