Sarah ~ School Activities ~ Aug. through Dec. ~ First Semester

On the first day of school (7th grade) Sarah was a little nervous.  She knew the layout of the middle school from 6th grade but was still nervous about the normal middle school things...being late, lockers not opening, not knowing anyone in her classes... We assured her she would be fine.  I made her pose for the first day of school pictures and Eric took her to the end of our drive to wait on the bus.
She had a good first day and has good days since then.  Below, her "about me" poster that she made for one of her classes and another that she had to make to hang on her locker.
Within the first week of school she tried out for, and made the 7th grade volleyball team.  We were all so excited!  It was a great season and Sarah did excellent.  She even won an award at the end of the season for being her team's "Best Server".
She especially enjoyed her first semester art class.  She had the same teacher for art as she did in 6th grade.  A very kind lady, who is creative and does some great projects with her students.
Below, her 7th grade (fall) yearbook picture.
Sarah and Eric went to school early one morning in the fall to participate in the annual "See You At The Pole" morning.  A morning each year, before the school day begins, for anyone (child or adult) to come together at the flagpole outside of the school and pray for our nation, our schools, our friends, our community, and our leaders.  Eric and another man from our church helped lead some of these middle school kids in prayer.
Sarah was selected as one of the "student athletes of the month" for October.  Way to go, Sarah!  You are a leader in your school on the court and in the classroom!
She continues working hard in all of her classes.  She completes her assignments in class and rarely has homework.  When she does, she works hard to get it done and diligently studies at home for upcoming quizzes and tests.  Her hardwork pays off and is reflected on her report card.
All A's! And the Academic Excellence Honor Roll for having a 4.0 GPA!
GREAT WORK, SARAH!
She tried out for and made the 7th grade basketball team too.  It was fun to go and cheer for her and her teammates each week.  She was awarded the "High Scorer" award at the end of the season for scoring the most points throughout the season.
Below, Sarah's oil pastel drawing for the art fundraiser.  (I love this fundraising idea!)  Each student creates a poster with oil pastels, then parents and friends can order the design on different things like...mugs, pillow cases, notecards, notebooks, a quilt square, coasters, even a garden flag.  This is something I have loved that Sarah's art teacher has done last year and this year.
Below, a self portrait Sarah had to draw of herself for Spanish class.
What were your favorite classes of first semester?  Why?
Sarah:  Art, Pre-Algebra, and P.E.  Art- We got to do fun projects.  P.E. - Because we got to do sports and a couple of my friends were in there.  Pre-Algebra - Because I am good at it and I really like the teacher.
What did you like most about being on the volleyball team?
Sarah:  I really liked my coaches a lot and my teammates.  I liked being a setter.  I also liked trying to block the ball at the net.
What did you like most about being on the basketball team?
Sarah:  I liked getting to know my teammates better.  I liked it when people from our school came and watched our games and cheered for us.  I liked it when my teammates and I could work together and score.  I remember one time I threw it all the way down the court to Addie and she scored an easy basket.  And, when I hit some "threes".
What are some of the best things about your middle school?
Sarah:  The teachers, the classes to choose from, and my friends.
