Day One - August 7th
Colorado Bound! All of us girls wore our matching "Take me to the MOUNTAINS!" shirts on this day.
At the first rest stop/bathroom break we got a picture of all the guys. COLORADO or BUST!
When we arrived at the cabin we unloaded and began to settle in. Phoebe, Sarah, Lindsee and I headed to the grocery store to get the food that we thought we would need for the week. While we were there Mom started to have some problems breathing (shortness of breath). When we got back to the cabin we checked her oxygen levels made some phone calls to the oncologist and decided it would be best to take her to the ER close by. Lindsee and Dad took her and stayed with her until the early morning hours when her oxygen levels had stabilized and she was released. Dad got a hotel room for he and mom back down in Colorado Springs where the elevation/altitude was lower and Mom could breathe much easier this trip. Througout the week we spent in Colorado we drove to the hotel a few times to do things in Colorado Springs as a family group. We were sad to not have Dad and Mom at the Hastings cabin with the rest of us, but we understood that it was better for Mom and her health to be where she could breathe easier.
Day Two - August 8th
Day two in Colorado we celebrated Silas's 10th birthday. We got up that morning and got around and then we headed to the North Pole, Home of Santa's Workshop. The kids were all smiles as we got ready to go.
We had a lot of fun for must of the day riding rides together, laughing, and walking around together at the North Pole.
We were all so glad that Jim and Patti were able to come spend the day with all of us too.
The kids and I loved riding the tilt-o-whirl a million times in a row. I do not love the ferris wheel so Eric always gets to ride this one with our kids.
We were bummed that the skeeball shooting gallery was closed. Boo!
Santa was excited to see all of us!!!

We got the kids new Colorado hoodies. Yay!
After the North Pole we headed to the hotel for some birthday cards, swimming, dinner....
Birthday dinner that night was pizza from Gambino's.
Back at the cabin that night we all ate some birthday fruit pizzas for dessert. Happy 10th birthday, dear Silas.
After birthday dessert, he opened his gifts from us.
Day Three - August 9th
Oh, a hiking we will go, a hiking we will go.... in the wrong direction. OOopps! Mark it down! Lindsee knew the RIGHT way, and EP took us the WRONG way to the trailhead. Ha!
This was our hiking halfway up Pike's Peak (on the backside) and mushroom hunting along the way day.
We had our mushroom guide (EP) with us, and we were set. We found several as we hiked and enjoyed some fantastic mountain views.
FANTASTIC VIEWS! Look at all those mountains surrounding us in all directions!
In all, we hiked 8.6 miles today. Whew! It was a good day in the mountains.
Back at the cabin that evening, the boys ate some more fruit pizza, the guys cleaned and prepared the mushrooms for dinner, and to end the evening we took a drive to look for Colorado wildlife. On our drive we saw lots of deer and some Elk.
Day Four - August 10th
This morning Eric, EP, Sarah, and Phoebe got up and left the cabin early to hike up Raspberry Mountain.
The four of them enjoyed their time together and added another mountain to the list of mountains that they have hiked.
Back at the cabin, later that day we played Silas's new game, "Throw Throw Burrito". It was a funny game that Silas really liked. Lindsee ended up the CHAMPION.
We ate some more of our delicious mushrooms for late lunch.
Then that evening, we all met at the hotel and then went to the Flying W Ranch for dinner and a show. If you are going to be in Colorado Springs, going to THE FLYING W RANCH IS A MUST! The food was excellent and the show was family friendly entertainment brought to you by a group of amazing Wranglers who are great musicians.
P.S. They even have a Christmas show!
We walked around the Flying W Ranch before dinner, looking at some of their livestock, riding a small train, and enjoying the mountain views.
The dinner was next, DELICIOUS FOOD in ample amounts, followed by a SUPER SHOW with great American music that everyone in our group enjoyed.
Below, our group after the show, Stacee Paul, Sarah, Gloria, Will, Eric, Lindsee, Phoebe, Silas, and EP.
We even got to visit with some of the Wranglers and the owner, Leanne Wolfe, after the show. Leanne was so kind and even took the time to take our kids, in the dark by flashlight, up to view the oxen. Thank you, Leanne, and Wranglers, and staff for a wonderful evening at your ranch!
Day Five - August 11th
We spent the morning hiking and fishing around the cabin.
Mountain and Cabin Life... are the best life.
We made our Erics pose for a funny "Senior" picture.
We did a longer hike in the afternoon in Pike National Forest, back behind the cabin, to the Beaver ponds and beyond.
We came one of our favorite picture spots in the Pike National Forest, along the hiking trail... The split rock.... We took turns splitting it a little bit more.
Cute cousins, Will, Sarah, Silas, and Phoebe.
It was a good trip with family to Colorado and the beautiful mountains.
