Silas Basketball - Summer Session

We are continuing are 11/12U advanced basketball team for the summer session.  We were assigned a new kid on our team, Teddy, who has been a good addition.

Game 1 and 2 - Monday, June 10th 6:30 and 7:30
The first night of games was a double header.  I gave Silas a mohawk haircut for the summer.  He was looking pretty tough.
The first team was a new team to the league.  They weren't physically dominating, but they were technically sound and exploited our weaknesses.  Silas had a few three attempts that were rushed and missed badly.  He made a free throw and played aggressively.  We got down quickly and never were in the game.  We lost by 24 (32-56).
Immediately following the first game, we played the second game against a team that beat us twice in the spring session.  They are really tall and athletic.  We played well but the other team kept hitting three pointers.  Silas swished one of his three attempts and almost made the other.  He had a fast break contested layup.  He played the best game I have seen him play since moving to the advanced league.  We lost by 9 (39-48).
It wasn't a good start to the season and several kids were emotional afterwards.  Hopefully, this was a good learning experience for the team.
Game 3 - Monday, June 17th 6:30
No pictures - Stacee and the girls were out of town for ESU basketball team camp

We played a team that was in the previous session.  We were up by 10 late in the second half but the other team got on a run.  We were down 3 with 30 seconds left when Mezzy hit a 3 to tie the game.  We pressured to get a steal and ended up giving them an easy shot as the time expired.  We had a foul to give which we should have used.  It was a tough loss, 37-39.
Game 4 and 5 - Monday, June 24th 5:30 and 6:30
No pictures - Baseball Tournament was the same night and time.

Both Carson and Silas missed the game to play in the baseball tournament.  Arnez played in the basketball games.  We only had 5 kids that had to play back to back basketball games.  They played hard but lost 34-21 (which was an improvement from our 25 point loss to them the first game of the season) and lost 46-28 in the second game.  In the second game, we had one player foul out early in the second half so we were playing four against five.
Game 6 and 7 - Monday, July 1st 5:30 and 7:30
Sarah was bribed to do the score table because no parents would do it for our team.
Both teams we played were not great and we got our first two wins of this session.  Silas started the first game and played really well for both games.  We won the first game 35-33 and the second 40-35.  We didn't play well but it was nice to get our first wins of the season.
Game 8 - Monday, July 8th 6:30
Our last game of the regular season.  As we have done several times this year, we got up by eight points and then gave up the lead.  We missed six straight free throws when the game was close.  We lost 30-26.  I talked to Brent Riedy who has a son on the opposing team before the game.  Brent is the principal of the highschool I built in Andover.  As you can see from the pictures below, Silas is always hustling and playing hard.  Wish other kids on the team would follow suit.  It has been a tough season.
Tournament - Monday, July 15th 6:30
We went into the tournament as the 6th seed so we were playing the 3rd seeded team.  They had beat us twice previously.
Silas is always hustling.
We lost 45 to 23.  It was a disappointing finish to a disappointing season.  We hope to turn things around in the Fall session.  Coach Arnez and I will need to figure out how to get team unity and for some players to control their emotions.
