Game 1 - Saturday, March 29th 11:00
We started a new session of Advanced YMCA basketball. We have been playing for about a year and half. This session we are 13u. We have kids on our team ranging from age 10 to 13 with the core group being 12.
The first game was a blow away game with us winning 76 to 20. The second game was a different story.
Game 2 - Saturday, March 29th 12:00
We noticed early on that this team was going to be a challenge. I coached with the opposing team's coach about 12 years ago when Sarah and his daughter were first graders. He told me his team had been playing together for a handful of years and competed well in MAYB and AAU games.
We lost 57 to 42. After getting down early, the team played with a lack of intensity. We got out hustled. This was a good reality check game for us. We get to rematch this team later in the season. Silas struggled playing today, with the majority of the struggle being between his ears. He was too concerned about messing up. We talked about it after the game and hopefully he is ready to go next week.
Game 3 - Saturday, April 5th 1:00
We played the team we played the first game of the season. We won again 84 to 6. Silas struggled on the offense end but played good defense.
Game 4 - Saturday, April 12th 1:00
We played the Hustlers this week, who were 3-0 coming into this game.
The score was close for the first half of the first half.
The team had a lot of height and one kid who could shoot the three pretty well.
We were able to pull away and win the game by 20. Silas only shot a few times and didn't score.
Game 5 - April Saturday, April 26th 11:00
We played a double header. The first team was against a team coached by one of my high school teammates.
Silas played good defense and made a three pointer.
Looks like my friend Dailey and I could be brothers.
We won this game.
Game 6 - Saturday, April 26th 2:00
The second game was against the 316 Rebels.
Silas continued good defensive play and made a three pointer.
We won. We are now 5-1 but next week will be two tough games.
Game 7 - Saturday, May 3rd 1:00
We knew going into this double header that it would be tough. We didn't know that we were going to be out two of our best players, plus another one of our big men. We had little height playing against some trees.
We lost by 67-20. I believe Silas went 0-6 from the free throw line and can see some issues with his mechanics. Something we will work on.
Game 8 - Saturday, May 3rd 2:00
Lost this game by 60-32. We didn't play poorly, we were just overmatched. Silas did make (3) 3s today.
End of Season Tournament Game 1 - Monday, May 12th 6:30
Opposing team was a "no show".
End of Season Tournament Game 2 - Wednesday, May 14th 6:30
We had a rematch against the Saints team that beat us by 28 last week. We played our best game of the season.
End of Season Tournament Game 3 - Wednesday, May 14th 7:30
Immediately following the quarterfinal game, we played the championship game. The team we played is all 8th graders. We have one 8th grader, two 7th graders, five 6th graders, and two 5th graders. We kept up the first half and were down 8 at half.
We ran out of gas the second half and ended up losing by 20+. Silas made a three and a two pointer and played hard. This was the last game that ended our playing for over the last year and a half straight. We are going to take off the next session of basketball. It has been a good experience for Silas and I and I hope this experience has prepared him to be a good middle school basketball player.
