Last Saturday evening we were at my parents house. My Mom had already hard-boiled about three dozen eggs for the kids to color and dye before we arrived that day. She gave them each an old t-shirt to cover their clothes. My Dad covered the table with about three layers of dye protection... just in case. We got started coloring first. The idea was to use the crayons to write and make designs on the egg shells, then when they were dipped in the dye the places that had the crayon wax would not take the dye. It worked pretty well.
Next, was the dipping and dyeing stage. Nanee helped Sarah. Popee helped Phoebe. And, I helped Silas. No one helped Matt. He was actually the most creative with the dye and surprisingly careful. Not one bit of dye got spilled, splashed, or dripped onto anyone or the carpet (that I noticed). Good job people. A+ in the cleanliness and careful departments for the 2015 egg dyeing session.
Egg dyeing takes a lot of concentration, careful movements, and tongue sticking out, I guess...um, or lip-licking? Whatever works to make those eggs beautiful and not make a dye mess.
We tried the provided wire dipping tools that come with the egg dyeing kit, along with slotted spoons, tongs, and toothpicks to hold and maneuver the eggs into the dye cups. The slotted spoon was my favorite egg dyeing and dipping tool.
Look at them! Aren't they just the cutest little group of Easter egg dyers you've ever seen? Yep. I think so too.
P.S. Way to hang in there for the whole egg dyeing session, Uncle Matt. Blue ribbon of patience award to you (and Popee and Nanee)... and I actually think you enjoyed this just a little bit. Glad our kids get to enjoy seeing and doing fun activities with you!
