I met my Dad and a few other family members at a local sporting clay shooting range last Saturday. This was only my second time to go shooting with my Dad. The first time I shot the 410 and the 12 gauge, hitting sporting clays in the air with both guns. I was excited to get a gun back in my hands and try to hit some more moving targets!
My Dad's cousin Jerry and his grandson, Christopher were shooting with us. Christopher was in charge of firing the sporting clays up into the air for us all to shoot. He did a great job. He also tried shooing a couple times with his Grandpa's guidance.
I always knew my Dad was a good shot, but didn't quite grasp how good till this day... He hit a sporting clay that came out of every thrower! Only missing a few clays, then asking for that one to be thrown again, and blowing it up! Wowser! If he and my Mom ever ran out of food or money, they would not starve with his shooting and fishing skills. Somebody sure taught him well! (Big ole nod of my head going to Howard Hastings and Duane Hempsmyer - my Dad's Dad and His Uncle).
The pictures I took below of my Dad were when two clays were thrown up at the same time (one from his right and one from his left). Then they cross paths. My Dad hit both clays as they crossed paths with ONE SHOT! Double Wowser! Literally.
The Man, the Myth, the Sharpshooter, My DAD!
Below, left is Jerry, my Dad's cousin and his Uncle Duane's son. Jerry is also a good shot! Below, right is my Uncle Charles, my Dad's older brother. Charles may have been having an off day though... I out shot him, or maybe I just got some good shooting genes from my Dad.
Who knows?!?
Who knows?!?
I did pretty well for my second time shooting at moving targets. I was informed later, that I was not holding the gun exactly in the right spot on my shoulder. But, I did hit the targets several times, so I must have been doing something right!
I can't wait to go do this again with my Dad. I see some hunting in my near future.
Look out Doves, Ducks, and Geese. I may be coming for you....
