St. Nick 5 Klick

On December 3rd Sarah and I ran in the St. Nick 5 Klick 5k race.  (Sarah and I ran in a total of 9 - 5k races this year and 1 - 2 mile race.  Phoebe ran in 2 - 1k races. Both girls ran in their school spring and fall 1 mile and 1/2 mile races as well.)  This was our last 5k race for 2016. Phoebe also ran in the 1k race.  It was a cold morning, so we all dressed in layers, hats, and gloves.  Before the race we made sure to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus who were at the race to cheer, visit, and hand out awards.  Eric and I got a lot of, "Is that the REAL Santa?" questions from the kids.  Silas went right up to him and told him that he wants a camera, the Rock'em Sock'em Robots game, and a color changer car.
There were only 63 other people in Sarah and I's race.  I got a fast start but slowed down after mile two.  I just couldn't get my legs to keep moving fast.  I wanted to get my 5k time down in the 24 minute range this year, but that will have to be my goal for 2017.
Sarah fell back behind me right off at the start, but kept running.  We both ran good races for such a cold morning.  Sarah's times have slowed this season, but I am happy she is still sticking with it.  She seems to do better in bigger (more people) races. I do too.
Stacee ~ 12th place out of 63 racers ~ 1st out of 5 in my age division (females 35-39 years old) ~ time 27:17
Sarah ~ 27th place out of 63 racers ~ 2nd out of 4 in her age division (females 13 and younger) ~ time 32:54
Santa was handing out the awards to the individual winners in the age categories.  He gave Sarah her 2nd place award.
And, he gave me my first place award.
Next up, was Phoebe.  She was not feeling good that morning.  She had a horrible cough and a slight fever.  We told her she did not have to run, but she kept telling us that she WAS running.  She picked Daddy to run her race with her.  Just as her race was about to begin it started to rain.
She started out fast with Daddy right with her....  She kept plugging away like the little engine that could...  She slowed down... Daddy held her hand...  She was miserable but determined.  She jogged past us at the end with a very very very sad face.
She and Daddy finished the race together.
And, Santa gave her a medal.
Way to go STRONG Hendrickson girls!  You have made my heart happy so many times this year with your competitive spirits and determination.  I love running with you and being your mom.
