It has been another great two months of school for Phoebe. She seems to really enjoy school and does well on her schoolwork.
What is your favorite part about math time?Phoebe: "I like measuring and writing on the erase boards. I like to help my teacher write things on the board."
She has reading homework every night. She reads a story aloud to a grown-up, practices Lightning Words (reading a list of words as fast and accurately as she can), and also reads sight words. Her reading has been improving. She received a chapter book for Christmas from her teacher, so teacher and parents agree she is doing well and ready to read more challenging material.
Phoebe's turkey says she is thankful for... "house, mom and dad, food, brother, sister, and water".
Did your class take a field trip in December? Where to? Did you have fun?Phoebe: "We went to a Lady Shocker basketball game. We rode on a bus to get there. I got to sit by Haylee on the bus. I cheered and clapped at the game."
What types of games or activities have you been doing in P.E.?
Phoebe: "Stuck In The Mud, Everybody Is It."
What did you learn about the Pilgrims and Indians?
Phoebe: "The Pilgrims used the Mayflower to go across the sea. They ate turkey, and ducks, and meat stew."
What were some of your favorite things about Thanksgiving break this past November?
Phoebe: "I liked going to the Moana movie and riding in Grandma Great's train, and playing in the leaves. I liked riding a horse and a tractor."
Phoebe earned a medal from the Mighty Milers program. It was for completing 13.1 miles, a half marathon!
Tell me about the Christmas craft you made, pictured below.
Phoebe: "During Friday Free Time I could play a game or make a craft. I picked make a craft. My teacher helped us make the craft. It was Christmas lights. We used lots of colored chalk, black paper and white crayons. I traced around a light pattern that my teacher let me use."
The week before Christmas break, the girls' school had themed days... wear red to school, wear your favorite Christmas outfit, wear crazy socks, and hat day.
The first grades studied about how and why Holidays are celebrated around the world.
Some of the countries studied were Israel, America, and Australia.
La Befana, Shoes, Poinsettias, and Gingerbread Men were just some of the Holiday traditions that the kids learned about while studying Holidays around the World.
Daddy, Popee, Nanee, Silas, and I all attended the all-school Christmas sing-a-long. It was a fun time for the adults and kids who were there. There was a variety of songs to sing-a-long with, some even had fun actions.
Phoebe and her friends got to jingle bells during one of the songs.
Later in the week, before the break, each class had their Winter Parties. My friend Jenny and I planned for Phoebe's class to decorate and eat Christmas cookies, plus all the other yummy snacks and treats that other children brought to share with the class. Below, Silas and two of his friends joined the party and decorated Christmas cookies too.
Below, Phoebe's table of friends liked decorating and eating their abundance of goodies.
What were some of your favorite treats at the Winter Party?
Phoebe: "The Christmas Cookie and the juice. I loved the Oreos."
