The Last Two Months - April and May - Sarah

Sarah had a fantastic last two months of 6th grade!  Sarah completed a slideshow/Book Trailer Template over the book she choose to do a report on... The book of Daniel from the Bible.
She did very well.  There was a lot of information that she did not want to leave out.
She did great in science.  She studied hard for quizzes and tests and strived to do her very best.  Her hard work and dedication to her schoolwork is reflected in her grades.
In social studies, like all of her classes, she did her very best on all projects and posters too.  She went above and beyond making books and displays for her class.
She choose to be part of her school's 6th grade track team.  They only met for a few weeks to practice before their one meet.  She was coming off of having Influenza A and missed the entire first week of practice.  She still ran hard and competed well.  There were only running events in the meet.  She was in the one mile and the half mile races, and got her PR in both.  Running a 7:35 mile and a 3:36 half mile.
She enjoyed track, but does not love to run.  We just like watching and cheering for her in whatever she chooses to do.  Way to be a competitor, Sarah!

The second semester she especially loved her general music class.  The teacher was young and very enthusiastic and he did an excellent job motivating his students and teaching them.  She learned to read music better than she already knew how, about rhythm, other musical things, and how to play the guitar.  They even got to record a guitar concert for us all to watch from home.
The two assignments below, from her language arts class, made me smile.  One about Brussel Sprouts and one about Basketball.
This girl sure loves sports, especially basketball.
Below, one of her sweetest writings this year, a dedication page... to her Popee.
"My first reason: he is always there for me.  When I am sad he always finds a way to cheer me up.  My second reason: I look up to him.  He used to be in the Army.  He is so cool!  My third reason: He is a real friend.  He makes friends so easily!  He has tons of them.  He is my best friend."
Sarah was nominated for the National Junior Honor Society.  She had to complete paperwork about herself and had to ask someone to write a letter on her behalf.  Then she had to wait to see if she would be selected to receive this honor.... She was selected! And was inducted in the NJHS on May 8th at an afterschool celebration for all of the inductees, their families, and their teachers.

Students are selected based on scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.  What an honor!
Yay!  Way to be a genuine leader in your school, Sarah!  Well done!
Below, the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Sarah's school that were inducted.
Popee and Nanee were able to come and watch Sarah receive this honor too.
After the ceremony we all went out to eat at the Olive Garden to celebrate Sarah's accomplishments and Eric's birthday.
Sarah's last science project of the year was a report she wrote and gave on a Derecho/storm.  She was well prepared for this, and even had a little help from Uncle Bret (Eric's middle brother who is a meteorologist and teacher in Texas).  Bret was even able to Skype with her science class one day before school got out.  He told them about being a meteorologist, storm chasing, and about teaching.
ALL A's... ALL YEAR LONG!  Impressive work, Sarah!
Good-bye 6th grade.  Hello 7th grade!

The Last Two Months - April and May - Phoebe

Phoebe had a good last two months of third grade.
They learned about Earth Day.

She continued to do super fantastic in the high third grade math group!
She was a part of the Girls On The Run program at her school, which started in February and continued till May 11th when all of the girls and their running buddies completed a 5k run together.  She enjoyed the GOTR program and running and is looking forward to participating again in the future.
Below, Phoebe's GOTR team, girls, coaches, and running buddies right before our 5k run.  Phoebe and I are in the front row, kneeling, towards the middle.  She had on a green shirt and I had on a tie-dye pink and yellow shirt.
For Mother's Day Phoebe's teacher helped her students make bath bombs to give to their moms.  It was a nice gift.
She continued to do very well on spelling tests each week.
Phoebe completed her reading AR goal and went above and beyond it by reading lots more books and taking reading comprehension tests on them.
Due to rainy weather the Third grade field day had to be moved inside to the gym.  Phoebe choose the 3-legged race, tennis ball toss, the egg and spoon race, hula hoop, and the limbo to participate in.
She and her friend Lila did well in the 3-legged race together.
Next up was the tennis ball toss.
Then hula-hoop contest.  She did so well in this event she had to go to using 3 hoops!
The egg and spoon race is all about keeping a wooden egg balanced on a wooden spoon as you walk quickly to the finish line.  If you drop your egg, you have to go back and start over.
Finally the limbo.  She did alright but knocked the bar off on about her fourth time under.
Phoebe did very well the 4th nine weeks and throughout the school year and her yearbook card reflected her efforts.
Phoebe tried out again this year for the all-school talent show, which is always on the last day of school.  She played her recital piano piece, Shirley Temple's "The Good Ship Lollipop" on the piano.  She was selected to perform in the talent show with about 15-20 other students.  When it was her turn she walked out, sat down, and played beautifully.
When school was out Phoebe had her friend, Shawna, come over and play for the afternoon.  Bye-bye third grade!  Hello fourth grade!
