Homecoming 2025

How did you find out that you were a candidate for 2025 Winter Homecoming?
SARAH - Coach Allan called me, on a day that I was home sick in bed... He said that I was nominated as a candidate and wanted to know if I would accept the nomination.
Who were the other candidates? (pictured below, left to right)
SARAH - Vincent, myself, Grady, Aliyah, Joe, Peyton, Emily, Camden, Lena, Dawson, Teaonna, and Gannon
What did you and your walking partner have to do?
SARAH - We had to create a handshake and then walk out in front of the school at the Pep Assembly and do the handshake.
Tell me about your handshake.
SARAH - Because Vincent and I chose the Spirit Day "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink" to be our day to represent, Vincent came up with the idea of us having a BURN BOOK as part of our handshake. The BURN BOOK is from the movie, "Mean Girls". I made the BURN BOOK cover at home on a notebook for us to use. When we walked out, we pretended to read the BURN BOOK, pointing, laughing, and pretending to actually write in the book. Then our handshake started... We did normal handshake things first and ended with him pretend slapping me, me slapping him back , and him throwing himself on the ground.
The students sit in the gym for Pep Assemblies by classes. Below, Phoebe (with the freshman class) had just spotted me up in the crowd taking pictures. I got a little smile out of her.....
Senior athletes went to center court to talk about their sports and the schedules. Sarah talked for the Girl's Basketball program.
Then, the Homecoming candidate handshakes started.....
Lastly the Pep Assembly concluded with the Class Chants contest to see which class can yell the loudest.
Which of the Spirit Days were you the most excited to dress up for? Least excited? Why?
SARAH - Adam Sandler day was the easiest and I was comfy the whole day. I didn't participate in "Anything But A Back Pack" day because I was only there for one block.
Tell me about dress shopping and getting the details figured out for your outfit for the big night.
SARAH - We looked at two different places for a dress. I tried on about 35 dresses at Dillard's and didn't find anything. I was in a terrible mood. Then we went to JCP and I tried on two and found this winner.
**Sarah looked BEAUTIFUL! She received MANY compliments on her dress from students, teachers, and friends. She looked classy, sparkly, and beautiful.**
Sarah received these beautiful yellow roses from one of her best friends and her family at school on Friday.

Below, Vincent and his mom, waiting on Sarah to make her way down the bleachers so that he could escort her onto the court....
Below, anxiously waiting for the King and Queen announcements......
What were you thinking when they called Vincent's name? Then when you were still standing there...and then they called your name?
SARAH - I was just excited for him. Then YAY! I just walked out there......
From the "Mom Perspective".... Last night was the pinnacle of this past week for Sarah. Homecoming festivities, college signing day, a feature article in VYPE Kansas, and finally she was crowned Winter Sports Homecoming Queen. It was busy but so much fun for her and us. My favorite part of the evening was when the king and queen were announced... Her homecoming walking partner, Vincent, was crowned King. His pure and genuine surprise and happiness in the moment was refreshing and Sarah's excitement for him... Then she was left standing there by herself as they began the announcement of the Queen...Then they read her name! Again, the pure and genuine response to being picked as the Queen by the students at her high school was one I will never forget. She is one of THE KINDEST people that I have ever met and she has made such a positive impact on those in school and sports with her.
And, these next pictures below are from a different angle, capturing the same moments of surprise on Sarah and Vincent's faces. (this angle courtesy of Laura Nicholas)

We were glad to have a big support group there cheering for Sarah and congratulating her after she was crowned Queen. Thanks Popee, Phoebe, Silas, Aunt Jan, Uncle Dale, Wanda, Lisa, Justin, and Aleigha.
Below, some of her basketball teammates and friends, left to right - Addison, Emily, Ava, Kenzie, Sarah, Maddilyn, Brooke, and Alia.
Both of our girls dressed up, looked beautiful, and went to the dance after the boy's basketball game. They had a great time together and with their friends. I think Sarah told us that she danced to every song.
