9th Birthday Party

We had a birthday party for Sarah on Friday, March 4th at our house.  Sarah just wanted to invite a few friends over to play.  So, I planned a couple crafts for them all to do together, they played, ate dinner and cake together, and Sarah opened her gifts from her friends.

The first craft we started out with were bunny or chick jars.  I had seen this craft on Pinterest and thought we would get the supplies for it and let the girls give it a try.

We gave each child a small jar and a paint brush and they each painted Mod Podge glue all around the side edges of their jar. (not on the top or bottom)  Next Eric and I helped them sprinkle yellow or white glitter all over the glue.  The next step was to let it dry.  While it was drying they each picked out a set of googly eyes, cut out feet, duck beaks, and bunny ears and whiskers.

Once everything was dry I hot glued on all of the small detail pieces to complete the chicks and bunnies.  Lastly Eric and I filled each jar with Starburst Jelly Beans for the girls to take home and eat later.

Pizza time!  And, bunny ears, apparently.

After dinner the kids all worked on the second craft.  I gave them each a wooden cross with a wooden heart in the middle of the cross, dumped a lot of paint on to some plates in the middle of the table and let them each paint their crosses and hearts however they wanted.

They each painted them very differently, but they all turned out beautiful!

Sarah got some nice and very fun gifts from her friends.

She picked an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen for her 9th birthday cake this year.  (Sarah loves dessert, especially ice cream!)

A Weekend With Grandma

Grandma got here on Friday afternoon, Feb.26th, when I was at school.  Mommy and Grandma both picked Phoebe and me up after school.  When I got home I saw my cheesecake that Grandma made for me.  In all my notes to Grandma before she got here I wrote, "can you bake me a cheesecake?" But she also baked a Pecan pie for Daddy.  She always bakes Daddy a Pecan pie.  But I got something better.........................

A Cherry Cheesecake!

Grandma got me a Barbie doll that comes with outfits and a shirt for my birthday.  I love them both.  I love love love love love love love love my GRANDMA.

Saturday was my last basketball game.  Grandma, Mike, and Grandma Great all came to my game.  I'm so sad it's over but after that game we got to go to IHOP.  I ate Cheesecake Bite Pancakes.  I love spending time with my Grandma

She didn't go home until Monday.  We also got to go shopping at a lot of stores.  Grandma likes to go shopping.  She likes blingy stuff.  She got me some new shirts.  She got Phoebe and me some Barbie outfits and Silas a car.  After shopping we went and got our toenails done.  Mine were pink with a balloon design and the number 9 for my birthday.  Thanks for coming Grandma.  We had a nice time together.

Sarah's January and February School Happenings

Sarah had another great two months of school.  She continues to work hard, be a good friend, and do her best at school.  

Sarah enjoys music, singing, and dancing.  In music they have tests over musical notes, rests, and musical terms.  They also have singing tests.  The students have to sing individually, in front of their entire class for the teacher, and are graded on their performance.  Sarah is getting better at this.  At first this made her very nervous, (I am sure it still does) but she is learning to overcome this and to do her best.  In February the 3rd graders all started to learn to play the Recorder.  We bought a couple of Recorder song books, Sarah a pink Recorder, and a yellow Recorder for Phoebe so that they could practice together at home.  So far Sarah has learned to play three notes, B, A, and G.  She does pretty well and can play several short songs.  Eric and I like to remind her that "leaks are squeaks!" when she is practicing.

At the end of the 2nd 9 weeks Sarah brought home her report card with all A's and one B.  Great job, Sarah!

She especially loves when her class gets to do an art project.  She enjoys making things and being creative.  She is learning to draw better and likes to make pictures for friends and relatives.

Did you learn anything new about Butterflies that you didn't already know?  Anything interesting?

Sarah:  I didn't know she laid her eggs by the food source.  I thought it was just a leaf.

What do you enjoy the most about computer/tech time?

Sarah:  Free time.  Where we get to do games on the computer.

What types of books have you been reading lately that you enjoy?  Titles?

Sarah:  Little House On The Prairie books and Nancy Clancy books and Pet Friends Forever

What have you been working on/learning in math?

Sarah:  Fractions, multiplication and division.

Tell me about these word sorts pictured below.

Sarah:  Those are my spelling words for the week.  I have the categories and if it ends in the same ending then it goes in that category.  I have to cut out all of the words, sort them, and glue them into the right spot.

For Valentine's Day you had to make a box to collect your cards in.  What was your box like?

Sarah:  It was a basketball free throw line.  The kids could shoot their Valentine into there.  Daddy and Mommy helped me make it.  I think mine was the best box.  People tried to get the ball off and shoot it into the box, but I didn't let them.  It was glued down.

What did your class do for the Valentine's party?  What kinds of treats did you all get to eat?

Sarah:  We ate lots of treats.  We got to look at all of our Valentine cards.  I got Kit Kats, Hershey's, and Fun Dip.  We ate cheese and crackers, strawberry pop floats, cupcakes, and a cookie.  We were trying to blow bubbles in our floats. We wanted to see who could blow the biggest bubbles.  I accidentally sucked in instead of blowing the bubbles.  Everyone at my table laughed at me.
