Thanksgiving Day 5K

On Thanksgiving Day Eric, Sarah, and I participated in our first 5K run/race together (3.1 miles).  The 5th Annual Say Grace Thanksgiving Day Race. This 5K run helps support the ministry of Grace Med Health Clinic.  There were 953 total racers that morning.
READY, SET, GO!
We are to the mid-right in the picture below.  I have on a bright salmon long-sleeved pullover with light gray pants.  Sarah is wearing a long-sleeved pink jacket and dark gray pants.  Eric has on a bright yellow long-sleeved shirt with light gray pants.
Here we come!
There we go!  Look below in the bottom left corner to see Sarah and Eric.
The pictures below were taken at the very end of the race as participants were jogging and sprinting into the finish line.  You can see Eric below, coming into the finish, in the next four pictures.  (Look for his bright yellow long-sleeved shirt.) His time was 26:54.  His overall place was 252.
In the next two pictures you can see Sarah and I coming into the finish.  As soon as I could see the finish line I told Sarah to take off, and she did!  Sprinting!  She passed many adults, and caught a young looking girl and sprinted it out to the finish with her, edging her out at the last second!  Super racing Sarah!  (Look for Sarah's pink long-sleeved jacket.  Look for my long-sleeved salmon colored pullover.)  Sarah's time was 28:02.  Her overall place was 306.  My time was 28:06.  My overall place was 308.
Team awards were given for Fancy Feathers award, Pilgrim's Pride award, Galloping Gobbler award, and the Mayflower Moniker award.  Individual medals were given to the top three finishers in each age and gender category and to the overall winners.  The overall male winner finished in 15:23!  The overall female winner finished in 19:04!
Sarah got 2nd place for the 9 and under females!!!!!! We were so happy and excited for her!  We can't wait to run our next 5K together.

Phoebe's October School Happenings

Phoebe had a great October.  It was filled with schoolwork and lots of fun school activities.  She participated in the school-wide Fun Run, got to go on a class field trip, had school pictures taken, Halloween and Fall parties, and the Book Fair.

What did you learn during Fire Prevention Week?
Phoebe:  "If your clothes is on fire you stop, drop, and roll.  Then the fire gets off of your clothes.  If there is smoke coming up and it's over you then you crawl. A fire truck came to my school with some firemen.  They did their sirens.  We got to go in the fire truck."
Tell me a little about the Book Fair.
Phoebe:  "We got to go and buy some books and eat donuts and drink juice.  I saw some of my friends there.  Popee and Nanee got to come too."
Below are Phoebe's Fall school pictures.
What was a fun Fall or Halloween craft/project that you got to make at school?
Phoebe: "Spookley The Square Pumpkin.  I used markers to make him."
Phoebe learned a lot about bats during October.  She remembered and told me many facts about bats leading up to Halloween.
Phoebe's parent/teacher conferences went VERY WELL!  She is right on academically and her speech continues to improve.  She is in the high reading group.  She works hard, listens well, sets a good example for those around her and tries to be a good friend to all the kids in her class.  She has told me several times lately, "All the kids in my class like me!".
Silas and I went up to Phoebe's classroom early on the Halloween and Fall party day to help Phoebe's teacher with costumes and snacks.  Silas enjoyed being in the classroom with Phoebe and her friends. For Halloween Phoebe dressed up as Buzz Lightyear from Disney's Toy Story.
Silas especially loves Phoebe's teacher this year and when the Halloween parade began he wanted to hold her hand and walk around the school with her and all of the other students.  Phoebe's class walked around the school with the other classes so that all of the students and adults could see everyone's costumes then they went back to to their classrooms for Fall parties before being dismissed.
What was one of your favorite costumes that you saw another student wearing?
Phoebe:  "Two of my friends were vampires. And I saw a few princesses."
Below is Phoebe's October calendar that she brought home every night from school in October.  A parent must initial it each night and send it back to school in the morning.  Each school day, at the end of the day, Phoebe gets to color the square with the color that her clip/clothespin has moved to and is still on at the end of the day.  17 green days, 3 blue days in October.
