Another great month of 4th grade for Sarah....
What are your favorite school lunch items so far this year?
Sarah: "Pizza, Corn dog, Burrito Bowl, Ham and Cheese Croissant."
Tell me your favorite things about school so far this year.Sarah: "This year in music we get to play Christmas songs on our Recorders. We get to paint more. Each week I can earn 5 extra minutes of recess by getting a stamp in my planner for a parent signing it and for not pulling a card (behavior chart). I can earn up to 30 extra minutes each 6 weeks."
Tell me your least favorite things about school so far this year.
Sarah: "I don't like math very much. It's not fun."
Every student at the girls' school is participating in the Mighty Milers program this year. (from the Mighty Miler website), Mighty Milers is a FREE running program for kids of all fitness levels from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. It's designed to get kids moving and prevent obesity and illness. Participation in Mighty Milers helps kids build their self-esteem, and learn to make and reach personal goals. Over the course of a program cycle, children in Mighty Milers set goals to run and/or walk a certain distance and earn rewards for reaching milestones along the way. To find out more about the Mighty Miler program and get information about bringing the program to your school,

There are incentives and rewards for running/walking miles in the Mighty Milers program. Sarah has already earned the drawstring bag and the T-shirt in her grade level group (grades 2-12).

Sarah: "We had to write a script about a natural disaster. Our disaster was a wildfire. My group worked slow. I was the only one really working. I wrote the script because no one else in my group was going to do it. We wouldn't have gotten it done in time and it wouldn't have been very good. We also had to make a background scene and props. Our props and background was trees and grass that was on fire, and we had a hose and a microphone. We had to act out our disaster scene and video tape it."
Below, is the hose that Sarah's group used as a prop.
How has Girls On The Run been going this month? What types of things have you girls been learning and doing at practices?
Sarah: "GOTR has been fun. We have been running at every practice, a lesson, and a snack. We also get to do an activity or game. My coaches are nice and pretty. They are helpful and they sometimes run with us. Each one of us in GOTR made a poster at home and brought it to school to tell people in our school about fun days one week in October. If the kids participated any of the days they had to pay a dollar to help us raise money for Kansas GOTR."
Sarah's Fall School Picture
Sarah's teacher had great things to tell us about Sarah and her schoolwork. Sarah did excellent the first nine weeks of school this year. All A's!!! Great job, Sarah!
At school on Halloween there was an all-school Halloween parade in the gym. Parents were welcome to come and watch with the students. Each class took a turn parading around the gym so that everyone could see each other's costumes. After the parade all of the students went back to their classrooms for their fall classroom parties.
Sarah's teacher dressed up as a construction worker.
Sarah: "There was a mermaid and Phoebe dressed like Dorothy."
