The first week in August we got three new kittens. They were about 9 weeks (about 2 months) old then. A lady that lived in a town nearby had some to get rid of so we took her three males. The kids were excited. Phoebe really wanted the little gray kitty. Silas wanted the black and white one, and Sarah wanted the stripes.
We had gone to Florida and Disney in July so we picked out Disney names for them. From the "Finding Nemo" and "Finding Dory" movies, the kids picked Hank, Bruce, and Charlie.
Sarah name the stripey kitten, Charlie. Charlie is very active and playful. He likes to wrestle with the other kittens, run around, and eat. He doesn't mind being picked up but doesn't want to be held for too long.
Phoebe named the little gray one, Hank. He is the smallest, probably the runt of the litter. He was a bit shy. It took him a few days to get use to us and being pet and picked up. He has fluffy soft fur and beautiful bright yellow eyes. Sometimes we call him Hanky or Hanky Panky instead of Hank. He likes to go underneath our front porch and he likes to lay on top of our cat house.
Silas named the black and white kitten, Bruce. I sometimes call him Brucey or Brewster, and I have heard Silas call him Shark. He is the best climber of the three. He can climb high in our trees and gets down, most times, with ease. He did however fall once when he got onto a very small branch that could not support his weight. He is a pretty kitten and likes to be pet.
All three kittens like to play, chasing a rope or stick across the ground. Sometimes the kids play with toy trucks and balls on the porch and the kittens like to chase them too.
Charlie especially loves Friskies cat treats. When we can't find him, we shake the treat container and he comes running.
Bruce, below and above up in one of our Cottonwood trees.
They were very curious at first climbing in and out of lots of things....
Silas got this cat toy for his birthday for the kittens to play with. They love it!
Before school started the kids would eat their breakfast on the front porch with the kittens. Sometimes the kittens would try to get in their laps to get to their breakfast.
We introduced all three kittens one at a time to our dog, Jessee. She didn't seem to mind the kittens, just wanted to give them each a sniff and then get on with other business. The kittens weren't too sure about her though for awhile. She got a few hisses from each of them and a lot of arching their back, "Halloween poses".
I think it is cute to walk out on the porch and see them all cuddled up together in their house or on top of their house.
They all three have started to purr a lot when they see us in the mornings or when they are being pet. Hank has a loud rough purr, like an old car engine. The other two have smoother loud purrs.
Sad news: Baby Hank (our gray kitten) got sick and he died on Monday, September, 3rd. It was a sad afternoon and evening at our house. He was a sweet little kitten and will be missed.
