August and September - Silas

The evening before school started in August, Eric took us all out for ice cream cones at Braum's.  Everyone enjoys this beginning of the school year tradition.
Silas was a little nervous on his first day of school, but I think he was very ready to go!  He makes friends easily and is a smart boy.  This year should be great!
He will have his sister, Phoebe, in the building with him, guiding and looking out for him.
Each Kindergartener is asked to bring some snacks each month to share with the class.  One of the snacks Silas picked to take and share was a giant container of cheese balls.  Pictured below with his Kindergarten teacher.
He had a great first day!
He has also started taking piano lessons.  His first lesson with Ms. Donna was in the evening after his first day of Kindergarten.
He has gotten to do some art projects.
His coloring and cutting have improved.
He has a packet of homework to complete each week, along with reading a book every night.
Above and below are some of his pages from his homework packets.
He has done some learning about shapes, numbers, and patterns.
His handwriting is getting neater and he is starting to use spacing between words more appropriately.
He really liked learning about America and making the American flag.
Our school participates in Chick-Fil-A Spirit Nights once a month.  Sometimes the Chick-Fil-A cow comes out to visit our school and to remind the kids to come eat there on our Spirit Nights.
After some testing, Silas was placed into one of the first grade classrooms for reading.  He has really taken off and is already reading short books and stories to us at home.  He has almost mastered the Kindergarten sight words.
He likes to draw.  At recess he has been enjoying playing soccer with a lot of his new friends.
Silas is off to a fantastic start to his elementary school years.  Keep working hard, Buddy.  You will do so good.
