A New League - The First 3 Games

** GUEST BLOOGER**
~ Eric Hendrickson ~

Sarah decided to play both Haysville Rec basketball and Upward Basketball this year. I am helping coach with Ro (black hat).
Game 1 - December 1st - against Mulvane 3
Coach Ro and I have a number of girls we have coached in the past: Sarah, Bella, Savannah, Cari, and Alexis.  We also have four new girls and one girl that I have previously coached in softball.
We started off strong but just couldn't get the basket to fall.
Wow, look at the form on Sarah's free throw!
Only one coach is able to stand during the game.  Since I am the assistant, I am to sit.  This is not easy for me to do, and I was told once by the facilitator to sit down.
Sarah played a good game on both offense and defense.  Out of the 20 points we scored, she had 14 of them.  She shot many shots, but she also had some assists.
The game was a nail biter and we ended up winning 20-19.  I believe we were the more talented team, but missing easy shots and turnovers on inbound plays made the game close.
It was a good first game.  We saw some things we need to work on and many things we liked.  Good job girls.

Game 2 - December 8th - against Clearwater 3
We had team pictures before our game with Clearwater 3.  All the girls and coaches were there but one.
This Clearwater team didn't put up much of a fight.
We shot a lot of baskets, unfortunately we missed a lot of them.  It wasn't just one girl, it was all of them.  It seemed like we got 2 or 3 shots for each possession.  On the positive, it helped us work on our rebounding, which they did pretty well.
Since we were up by more than 10 most of the game, we were able to play our non starters more than 1/2 the game.
Our 2-1-2 zone defense was tough.  This was fun and rewarding to see.
We played man defense much of the second half, which also did well.  Sarah played exceptional defense, forcing several steels and tie-ups.
Sarah made one of two freethrows.  She ended up scoring 9 points.
It is fun to watch our girls at the end of games.  They come off the court super excited.  We ended up winning 23-3.  Several girls scored and I think all girls got at least one shot.  This team is going to be hard to beat.  Good win girls!

Game 3 - December 15th - against Mulvane 2
We had a 9am game in Mulvane so it was an earlier than normal start for the team.
The other team seemed to be well coached.  They played a tough zone defense and they ran a decent motion offense.
Our team started off flat and never really got into a groove.
Sarah shot quite a few shots but ended up with no points.  Thankfully a couple other girls stepped up their scoring and we won the game 13-6.
Coach Ro just lost his mom (Bella's grandma) to cancer this week.  Glad the team could celebrate a victory.
