It has been another good two months of school for Silas.
Silas got to participate in his first schoolwide fall Fun Run in October. Kindergarteners all ran a half mile. He has watched many Fun Runs over the last couple years, so he was ready to run! He lined up on the starting line with all the other Kindergarteners and took off like a shot! Below, he is wearing the bright yellow hoodie.
He started out so fast that I wasn't sure he'd be able to keep it up for the entire half mile....
The race around the course was lead by a few teachers driving a Gator. Silas and the little boy below caught the Gator several times! I think those teachers driving it were as surprised as those of us watching at how fast these two boys were running THE WHOLE TIME!
Silas ran a fantastic race! It was extremely fun to watch him compete and do so well. Below, in the picture you can see Sarah, Popee, and Nanee cheering him on.
We are always glad when Popee and Nanee can come to town and watch the kids events.
Silas completed many cute fall coloring sheets and art projects.
Eric enjoyed going to Pastries With Parents with Silas and Phoebe. The kids spent a little extra time at school with me that week because I also helped with the events Pastries With Parents and the Book Fair.
Below is Silas's first elementary school report card. He is doing excellent at school in academics and socially. He has made a few friends and likes to help his teachers.
The new music teacher planned a new schoolwide event called Boogie On The Blacktop. Each grade level got to perform a couple of songs and dances for families to watch one evening in October. Silas's class danced to Monster Moves and Ew-E-Ew-Ah-Ah. It was cute! The kids did a great job. I could tell the kids had all worked hard to learn their dances.
Silas got to go on a field trip with his class to the Pumpkin Patch. I packed him a lunch and decorated the lunch sack with Halloween drawings. I also went on the field trip with his class. It was an enjoyable day spent with lots of Kindergarteners.
We took a hay rack ride out into the pumpkin patch for all of the kids to pick out a pumpkin to take home.
There were lots of fun things for the kids to do, a jumping pillow, swings, tractors to climb on, and a zip line.
There were a few baby animals to pet...calves, goats, lambs, and pigs.
Silas dressed up as Buzz Lightyear for Halloween.
The kids all dressed up for the school costume parade and then after that they had their classroom parties.
Silas was happy to receive a certificate and Texas Roadhouse award from his reading teacher for completing the "Kindergarten 50", (a list of 50 sight words that each Kindergartener works on learning and being able to read before their Kindergarten year is over).
Silas and his classmates studied and learned about Veterans Day. They got to write a "thank you" card to a soldier for all he does for us and our country.
They learned about Christopher Columbus and did an art project about him.
He continues to have a homework packet each week. The packet includes reading, comprehension, math, and writing activities in it.
He completed a few Thanksgiving projects.
And, he completed the pictures in a pilgrim book.
My favorite homework in November that Silas had to complete was to create a disguise for a turkey. He wanted to make his turkey look like Phoebe's teacher from last year. I helped him cut out some feathers, draw some lines, and place things in the right place on his paper. It turned out PERFECT!
His teacher even let him take his turkey down to show it off to the look-a-like. That teacher liked it so much it was deemed "selfie worthy"!
Silas you are having a great year so far! Keep working hard, having fun, and being a good leader at school.
