A couple days before Owen proposed he have me an invitation to the date he had planned for December 31st. In the invitation it had a dress code - church attire, time to get there, bring the Polaroid, etc. Once I got to his house we played a few rounds of Pounce. This really threw me off because I had no idea what to expect. Then we took my Polaroid with us and walked together to a spot on the cabin property that was set up with a picnic blanket, canvases, and paints facing towards the sunset and pretty landscape. Owen then said that we were supposed to paint the scene that was in front of us within 45 minutes. He said that we were not supposed to look at each other's paintings, but to wait until the end to show each other and compare. So, we started painting. Then the timer was up and it was time to show. He set up his camera to record each of our reactions to each other's paintings. I went first and gave him my painting. He looked at it and laughed. I'm not really sure why. He also accidentally did not hit record for this one. Then it was his turn. He gave me his painting and when I opened my eyes, I read what was on the painting in the sky. "Will you marry me?" I looked up at Owen, and he was on one knee with a ring in his hands. I was super surprised and so excited which led to me being a complete dork. My most famous line from what I replied was "Are you joking?!" But I did say "YES", so that's all that really matters. After he put the ring on my finger we hugged and then talked for a while. He also told me he had a surprise, got up, put his shoes on, and ran to a nearby tree. I was really confused. He came running back with sparkling cider and two glasses and said, "to celebrate". It made me laugh a lot, but it was a cute idea. He then poured the drinks and we toasted. After this we packed up and walked back to his house. Natasha took a few pictures of us and told us congratulations. Owen told me he had another surprise for me. He had made chicken gnocchi soup and Italian breadsticks - my favorite. He had a table set up in his room where we ate dinner. Ot the table there was a lit candle and carnation flowers. It was an amazing dinner! After dinner we watched Stranger Things, watched the New Year's Eve ball drop, and made sure to stay up until midnight.
Before dinner I facetimed my family, Lindsee's family, Popee, and Grandma to show them the ring and to tell them the exciting news.
My friends Addison and Ava came over a couple nights later to congratulate me.
