Silas 7th Grade - Track Season

Silas had a successful track season. He was the first of out three kids to choose to participate in track.
His main two events this season were the mile and the half mile. He also participated in the 200 M hurdles at a few of his track meets, the 4 x 200 relay, and the 800-medley relay. In both of these relays he ran the first leg. He was able to better his mile time from cross country, getting a new PR in the mile of 5:36.24. And a highlight of the season for him and three of his friends was winning the 800-medley relay at the league meet and setting the new school record in this event of 1:54.77.
Meet #1 at Rose Hill - Monday, April 6th
Silas's events and results:
1600 M Run (1 mile) - 2nd place, 5:43.95
800 M Run (1/2 mile) - 6th place, 2:48.61
200 M Hurdles - 6th place 36.83
Coach Shipman - "The kids did a great job last night not only on the track but also in the way they represented their school. We made some mistakes on the track, but that is how we learn and get better! We appreciated the effort whether an athlete finished first or last, and sometimes it takes way more strength to finish last than it does to finish first in front of such a large crowd."
Meet #2 at Wellington - Thursday, April 16th
Silas's events and results:
1600 M run (1 mile) - 4th place, 5:55.7
800 M run (1/2 mile) - 6th place, 2:48.07
4x200 Relay (Silas was the first leg) - 3rd place, but were DQ'd due to our third runner
800 Medley Relay (Silas was the first leg) - 2nd place, 1:57.61, Silas's split time was 13.84
Coach Shipman - "The kids did a great job last night at Wellington; we are very proud of their efforts. If you weren't there, there were some incredible performances. Watching J'zire go from last place to first place in the medley or watching Bently Haylor and Greg Stone make up over 50 meters to win the 1600 medley because the starter made a mistake and gave Circle a fifty meter lead was just awesome! There were so many others, but it was a fun night for all of us."
Meet #3 at Hutchinson - Thursday, April 23rd
Silas's events and results:
1600 M run (1 mile) - 10th place, 5:51.24
800 M run (1/2 mile) - 14th place, 2:43.16 PR
200 M Hurdles - 24th place, 36.23 PR
Coach Shipman - "Yesterday's meet was one of the toughest in this area, and that was evidenced by the fast times and long distances thrown/jumped. We competed very well even though our places may not have shown that. We had many Personal Records and we are incredibly happy with how our kids competed.
Meet # 4 at Mulvane - Thursday, April 30th
Silas's events and results:
1600 M run (1mile) - 4th place, 5:36.24 PR
800 M run (1/2 mile) - 10th place, 2:46.54
Coach Shipman - "The kids have done a great job, and we are incredibly proud of their effort as always. They continue to work hard and improve. We had a couple good nights to run, and the results were fantastic. Lots of Personal Records, medals, ribbons, and near records!"

Coach Shipman - "Thank you for allowing us to coach your kids this season. WE have really enjoyed working with them and watching their growth as track athletes as well their growth as people. We have enjoyed getting to know them outside the classroom and to see their personalities in a different setting. You have awesome kids!"
"We are proud of the many Personal Records, medals and school records they have earned this year. We ended the season with 6 league champions and two school records and hundreds of Personal Records.
