Sarah's Field Day
Sarah's field day was on a sunny afternoon last week. She got to select five events to participate in. She picked the egg and spoon race, 150m dash, Tennis Ball throw, Soccer kick, and Hula-Hoop contest. Other events she could have picked, but did not, were Limbo 50m dash, 75m dash, 100m dash, and the sack race. She started her afternoon with the egg and spoon race. In this event I really like how she walks fast, carefully, and stares at her egg the whole time. She got 1st place in this event.

Next up was the Hula-Hoop contest. Sarah has gotten first place in this event every year....until this one. She had to settle for a 3rd place ribbon in it. She made it past one hoop.....then two hoops...
then when the third hoop was added she didn't get a good start on the bottom red hoop (see the picture below). It Hulaed around her a few times then separated from the other two hoops, wobbled and fell to the ground. Bummer.
The three-legged race was run with a partner against other girls and boys teams. Sarah and her friend, Savannah, moved together quickly and beat all the other teams, claiming the 1st place ribbon in this event.
She picked the longest race available to run in, the 150m dash. She sprinted and used her long legs to outstride her opponents. Another 1st place ribbon to add to her growing pile!
Next up was the Soccer kick. Each kid had three chances to kick a Soccer ball through to goals, one closer up and one farther away, earning points for making the goals. Sarah earned 5 points and another 1st place ribbon! Her last individual event was the Tennis ball throw. Again there were cones set up and each kid took turns throwing a certain amount of Tennis balls at the cones. If the cones were hit they earned points. Sarah earned 20 points for hitting the cones and a 2nd place ribbon.
Tug-O-War time! The 3rd grade classrooms faced off against each other.
Pull!! Pullllll!!!!!! Lean back!!! Dig your feet in!!! Move backwards!!!!! (All things you could've heard Popee and I yelling at Sarah's class.)
Sarah's class won the first tug. It was best 2 out of 3 to for the Big W, so they needed to win the next tug...
They switched sides and pulled again. Sarah's class lost the 2nd tug.... one more time to determine the winner....
Another Switch of sides and they pulled one last time with a lot of effort but lost the 3rd tug to the other class... Boo Hoo Hoo.
Popee and Nanee came for the afternoon to cheer on Sarah and got to enjoy all the events with us.
Phoebe's Field Day
Phoebe's field day was held last Friday morning. There were only five events and each Kindergartner got to participate in each one. They had been practicing for these five events for the last few weeks during some of their P.E. time. They went by classroom, boys against boys and girls against girls, except for in the Hula-Hooping contest, there were enough hoops for each class to go all at the same time, so this meant girls and boys competed against each other in this event. The first event was the egg and spoon race. Phoebe did pretty well at this balancing her egg on the spoon and only dropping it one time.
Next up was the Hula-Hoop contest. Phoebe has gotten pretty good at Hula-Hooping this year. They each started with one hoop. The last four left standing, still Hulaing, were given a second hoop to Hula.
Phoebe added on her second hoop and started to Hula... Two other children went down right away, leaving Phoebe and one other little girl Hulaing two hoops... A few more seconds passed and one of Phoebe's hoops began to fall. Darn.
She got second place in the Hula-Hooping contest. Great job, Phoebe! In the Bean Bag toss each child had five tries to toss their bags into hoops that were a certain distance in front of them. Two points were given for the farthest hoop and one point was given for getting your bag into the closest hoop. Phoebe got two into the close hoop and one into the far hoop, for a total of four points.
Next was the Limbo. Phoebe only made it under the bar once and on her second attempt to go under the lowered bar she knocked the bar off with her head. Whoops.
Her last event was the 35m dash. She ran fast against her friends with a cute little smile on her face.
Popee and Nanee got to come and spend the morning with us watching and cheering Phoebe and her friends on during all their events.
