Last Saturday, May 7th, Sarah and I ran in the Girls On The Run 5k. The race started first thing in the morning and was held downtown. The whole race was run on blocked off roads mostly along the river.
We brought our own little party of 3 fan club to cheer for us... and to take pictures, including selfies. When it was time to line up to begin the race Sarah and I tried to get as close to the front of the people lining up as we could. We wanted to be near the starting line, so we would have less to pass right out of the chute. We started out strong and settled into our pace. We passed several people who had been in front of us, and were left with 15-20 runners still in front of us. (The majority of the participants in this race walked half or all of this 5k.)
We kept a steady pace the entire race until the end when I began to sprint to the finish with about 75-100m left. Sarah followed right along at my heels. I held her off and finished about 1 step in front of her.
Below, on the right, Sarah and I are almost to the FINISH line. (wearing white t-shirts)
The race was not officially timed, but by my watch our time was a 29:05. This was not our best time, but we were satisfied with the run and had a nice time running together.
