Phoebe had an excellent last two months of 2nd grade.
She continued to do amazing on her spelling tests every week.
She worked hard at home on all of her reading, spelling, and math homework each evening with minimal complaints.
Throughout the school year Phoebe's teacher used a punch card reward system. When the card had all of the paw prints punched out, the student got to pick a reward from the teacher. Below, Phoebe picked to have lunch with her teacher and a friend one day. Her teacher told me later she made herself very comfortable that day for lunch, taking her socks and shoes off in the classroom before eating lunch.
Did you eat any hot/school lunches this year, or did you take your lunch everyday?Phoebe: Yes, I ate a school lunch one time. It was chicken nuggets. It was good. I took my lunch all the other days.
What was something that you did not like about school this year?
Phoebe: Noon fitness, because we had to run the whole time...for like 20 minutes. On other days at noon fitness we had free time to play on the playground, and sometimes we danced inside.
What was your favorite "special" class this year? Why?
Phoebe: PE. I like to have fun and play games with my friends.
Field day had to be held inside again this year for Phoebe's class due to bad weather outside. Phoebe ran in a race, participated in the egg and spoon race, hula hooped, did the limbo, and did the bean bag toss.
What event did you like the most this year?Phoebe: Limbo
What event did you like the least this year?
Phoebe: Bean bag toss

Phoebe got two second place ribbons. One in the limbo and one in the egg and spoon race.

Music tests happened throughout the year. Phoebe did alright on them considering that there is not a way to help her study at home, due to study sheets not being sent home consistently, and no class notes or communication from the music teacher to let parents know what the students are learning about throughout the year.
What was one of your favorite art projects that you got to make in 2nd grade?Phoebe: Giraffe dancing picture. I painted and colored it. I cut the Giraffe out and glued it onto my painting.
The week before school got out a few parents, including myself, put together a lunch party for our kids' 2nd grade classroom. One of my friends made this very cool deer hunting cake for the dessert that day.
What are you excited to do this summer?
Phoebe: Play softball and go to Florida, and swim.
The annual spring fun run was held on May 11th, in the afternoon.
Kindergarten and 1st grade ran a half mile race. 2nd - 5th grades ran a 1 mile race. Phoebe was hoping to better her time from the school's fall fun run. (Her fall 1 mile time was 8 minutes and 26 seconds). I knew she could do it if she ran hard.
On your marks. Get set. Go!!!
Phoebe kept right on running, hard and fast. She did not ever slow down... only speeding up and passing more and more kids!
She ran determined and fierce.

Below, down the final straight away!!! Go Phoebe, Go!!!!
She ran an amazing race, one mile in 8 minutes and 12 seconds, bettering her time by 14 seconds! She was the 4th second grade girl to cross the finish line!

The second to the last day of school is always our school's school wide field trip to the zoo. We had a big group of 2nd and 5th graders to walk around with this year.

Phoebe's report card was fantastic, once again, for the fourth nine weeks. She made improvements and continued her excellent work habits.
Phoebe tried out for the all-school talent show this year. She wanted to play her recital piano piece, "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands". The talent show is held the morning of the last day of school every year. She was selected by the music teacher to perform! We were all very excited that morning.
Sarah told me later, (and Phoebe showed me), that she had written and given this note to Phoebe while they were walking to their classrooms that morning on the last day of school. What a sweet big sister!
Phoebe played her song that morning the BEST that I have ever heard her play it. My mommy heart was exploding as she played, loudly and smooth, and not once did she mess up!
At the end of the talent show some of the teachers dressed up and danced to the YMCA. This was hilarious!
Popee, Nanee, Eric, and I were all there for the morning's activities. It was a fun morning.

Phoebe received this nice card and letter from her teacher. He will be unforgettable and part of our lives for a long time. He is one of the best, hands down. We were so fortunate that Phoebe got to have him for 1st and 2nd grade. He goes above and beyond in and out of his classroom for each student in his room. Phoebe was truly blessed to be in his classroom
On the last day, when I picked the girls up from school, the majority of Phoebe's class came out of the building crying. They ALL had become so attached to their teacher, and he to them, that it was a very happy, but sad day for each one of them. Phoebe (my child who does not cry very often) was audibly sobbing. It was tough on many of them. As I reflect on that time now as I type this, my heart is heavy too, thinking of the friendships and bonds that were formed among the students and with their teacher... It is truly a reflection of what a wonderful teacher Phoebe had and the amazing job that he did of forming relationships with his students, and their families, and teaching our children. We will miss you!
