The all school Spring Fun Run was held on Friday, May 12th. We had a lot of rain prior to the 12th so the run course had to be altered from the previous fun run course to a new path on concrete out in front of the school due to standing water and mud on the 1/2 mile and mile courses. Smiles and excitement buzzed from the students before and after their races. Just like all the previous races, Kindergarten and 1st grade ran a 1/2 mile. and 2nd through 5th grades ran 1 mile.
Below, Phoebe's friends and classmates, left to right, Alessandra, Abby, Phoebe, Rayna, and Taityn.
Below, 1st grade is off to a quick start.... Go Phoebe!
They had to run 3 laps to equal close to a 1/2 mile. Phoebe started strong and settled into her pace quickly. She picked people off in front of her all along her way, working her way up to being a leader of the pack.
Many kids got lapped, which got a little confusing for spectators and some racers. It was apparent some racers could not and did not remember how many laps they had run, even one or two teachers got confused at the finish line and made two students leading and battling for a top place finish in the 3rd grade run an extra lap.
Phoebe battled her friend Lila out at the end.
She got those little legs going and made them speed up to edge Lila out right at the last second for a 3rd place finish!
Way to run Phoebe!!! 3rd place out of all the girls in 1st grade!
I couldn't stop smiling after Phoebe's race. She did so well and it made my heart so happy for her!
Before our girls races Eric and I tried to tell each of them the best place to line up on the starting line, as there was a quick turn right off out of the starting line and depending on where you lined up, one could get an advantage on the start. Both girls listened and took a great position on the starting line. Sarah has taken the girls 1st place spot among her classmates at every fun run so far... we were hoping to continue this today. She and I have not been running together lately and she may have been a little unprepared for this race.
She got off the line and out of the masses quickly getting a great start.
She sprinted out and around the first corner to start her first lap. 1 mile runners had to each run 5 laps.
Sarah's friend Katie and Brooke both gave Sarah a run for her money, catching up with her and passing her.
As Sarah rounded the last corner coming into the last straight away Eric, Popee, and I were all yelling at her to "GO, Go NOW, Catch those GIRLS!!!" And, she heard it as her legs started to pound the concrete harder and harder, striding out to catch and pass both Brooke and Katie, and claiming the 1st place girls spot once again. Whew! That was too close for this Mom. (I just don't know where Sarah could get her competitive spirit from???) Way to go Sarah! I love watching you compete and succeed!
Below, left to right, Lauren, Sarah, and Hannah.
Silas lined up close to the starting line when the 5th graders were getting ready to begin their race. When they took off so did he!
Go Silas, Go!!!!!
As the 5th graders rounded the corner Silas would race them for about 35 meters, over and over, he picked a 5th grader and raced along side them. Cute and hilarious little boy!
A teacher that was running with the 5th graders noticed Silas and attempted to race him too!
This made Silas get a BIG smile on his face!
It was a great Fun Run! We all had a good time watching and cheering for the girls and their friends.
