In March the school held a Literacy Night with the "Where the Wild Things Are" book theme. We we arrived there was a photo booth for some Wild Things pictures...
We listened to the Wild Things story, did some crafts, and ate a snack.
Each Kindergartner and 1st grader got to take home their own copy of "Where the Wild Things Are" and one other book.
Phoebe continues to do well in math.
In Music class they have to take tests over musical instrument identification, things about the instruments, and have singing tests, where they have to individually sing in front of their classmates for a grade.
Phoebe had started to really enjoy drawing this year. She has been drawing a lot of animals lately.
Each morning, Phoebe has to do some morning work at her desk. Below is an example of some morning work sentences that she wrote.
Phoebe studies her spelling words at home with Eric and I. The list is sent home on Monday and the test is on the last day of the week. She does really well on the tests, and writes very neatly.
In the story project pictured below - right, All About My Insect, she wrote... It's name is Big Ant. She loves to eat grass and leaves. You can find her at the park. She loves to smile.
Phoebe has reading homework every week. She has to read me a book outloud every night, and has at least one other reading exercise to complete, sometimes reading sight words or lightning words, sometimes writing sentences, or reading a 3 paragraph passage for fluency.
She had do a written report on the Jackrabbit. She then had to give her oral report about the Jackrabbit in front of her reading class. She didn't seem nervous beforehand, rather sort of excited to get to give her report. She did very well! 25 out of 25 points for research, neatness, illustration, written report, and presentation.
Her Lorax project pictured below - left, was featured at the All District Art Fair. Her Lorax says If I was the Lorax, this is how I would help our Earth and others... I would help pick up trash. I would say to people do not be a bully.
She learned facts about Kansas.
End of the 3rd nine weeks - Great report card again! Way to go Phoebe!
