Wednesday was our Eleven Mile Canyon day. (Eleven Mile Canyon is located by Lake George, about thirty minutes west of the cabin.) We packed a picnic lunch and drove over for some exploring, cold water, and chipmunks. Phoebe and Popee found a path and took a walk down by the edge of the water.
Eric and Sarah took a slightly harder path and climbed to the top of a huge rock that was out in the middle of the water.
Then they had to climb carefully back down the rock.
Beautiful Colorado wildflowers growing in Eleven Mile Canyon...
The girls brought their swimming suits and after lunch and some exploring, decided to get changed and get into the cold water. I think Phoebe was shivering the whole time!
They stayed in the water walking around and jumping up and down for about ten minutes then got out to change and get warmed up.
Next up, feeding the chipmunks... We had some pretzels and some crackers that we all took turns throwing out to the little critters.
Wyonna finally got one to come and eat out of her hand, then my Dad had one come eat out of his hand...
Of course Sarah wanted to feed one out of her hand as well... She waited and held very still. Then one came and ate some food, then another, then two raced towards her hand at the same time causing a Chipmunk collision and scuffle. The next thing Sarah knew one Chipmunk was in her hand and one was running across her lap! She jumped up, surprised, and announced that she was done feeding the Chipmunks.
Both girls had very dirty hands and there was no where to wash them, so Popee took them done to the water and lowered them each in for a hand rinse.
After Phoebe's hands were rinsed the first time she walked up the shore, tripped and fell, and got her hands all dirty again. Back down to the water she went with Popee for her second hand rinse.
Back at the cabin later that day Phoebe put together several puzzles, and with Aunt Wyonna's help she was able to put together her first 100 piece puzzle!
Later that night after the kids had gone to bed we played a couple games of Sequence, men vs. women, while we waited for Lindsee and Eric Paul to arrive at the cabin. Men won two games and the women won one.
