Heading Out Of Town

A little over a week ago we packed up and headed out of town, and out of the state, for a family vacation.  We left on Friday evening, June 28th, when Eric got off work and drove straight to the Hastings family cabin in Colorado.  We were all excited and happy to be headed there.  (We haven't gotten to spend time at the cabin for the past 2 years.)

The cabin is located near Woodland Park, Colorado and the Pike's Peak area.  There is so much to do and see there.  I say it is a family cabin because it belonged to my grandparents, Howard and Jo Hastings.  When they passed away it was handed down to my Dad, and his two brothers Charles and Dale.  So, now in the summers my family, my siblings, and my cousins and their families all have the opportunity to spend time at the cabin if we want to thanks to my grandparents and their sons sharing this beautiful place with all of us.
Our drive out was okay.  Uneventful.  We stopped a couple times to potty and to eat supper...  The kids were all good.  The girls watched a couple movies then fell asleep.  Silas cried some, slept some, and played with toys in his seat some.
My driver was awesome as usual.  He was calm, wide awake, and drove us for about eight hours before wanting to switch drivers for the last hour or so.
The western Kansas sunset was beautiful!  I entertained myself for quite awhile trying to take pictures of it out my passenger side window while our van was zooming west on I-70.  Eric helped me by calling out things like windmill, columbine, or barn as we were approaching them and they went whizzing by... usually I did not have enough time to try and zoom in and get the object in the sunset picture.  Below is what I did get though... BEAUTIFUL colors, BEAUTIFUL sights, all AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL things that God painted and created.
We made it to the cabin by about 2:00 am Colorado time.  Not too bad for leaving town when Eric got off work (approx.5:00 pm), with 3 little kids, potty breaks, and a supper break.  When we got to the cabin we were greeted by a sleepy but smiling Uncle Charlie.  Our kids were all three awake so we had to get them all back to sleep... Both girls started in the bunk beds but ended up in the big bed with Eric, Silas in his pack-n-play, and I got to sleep in the top bunk by myself.  Hooray for Colorado, the mountains, a family cabin, and the memories that are made every time we get to go there!
